Job Description

BC Spaces for Nature seeks a dynamic and experienced Executive Associate to join our growing team.

Overview

For almost 50 years, BC Spaces for Nature has campaigned to protect parks and wilderness throughout British Columbia. We are a highly successful conservation organization, instrumental in the protection of over 9.5 million acres of wilderness in the province, including the Tatshenshini-Alsek Wilderness Park and the Chilcotin Ark. Our work also led to the protection of significant areas like Spatsizi Wilderness Park, Purcell Wilderness Conservancy, Height of the Rockies Wilderness, and the Nitinat Triangle in Pacific Rim National Park. The key behind BC Spaces’ success is catalyzing and triggering conservation campaigns, often behind the scenes.

Our current priority is to reform BC’s forest industry through innovative and climate-smart harvesting practices.

Purpose

The Executive Associate is responsible for providing day-to-day support to the Executive Director in the areas of financial management, administration, fundraising, and communications.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director, the Executive Associate is responsible for:

Administration

  • Assist with Board and committee meeting scheduling and minute-taking
  • Plan and execute Annual General Meeting of members
  • Assist with support and management of advisory committees, if established

Financial Management

  • Assist with annual Budgeting
  • Financial reporting to senior management and Board
  • Bookkeeping, payroll, bill-paying, and cash flow tracking

Fundraising and Development

  • Donor relations, including database management
  • Foundation relations
  • Grant writing and reporting

Communications

  • Message development per target audience
  • Web site management
  • Social media
  • Campaign communications
  • Media relations
  • Presentation preparation (PowerPoints)
  • Advertising
  • Video production/supervision
  • Tracking news and policy cycle; maintainng files of key articles/source

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a related university degree and at least 3 years of experience working in a non-profit office environment, with specific experience in the areas of Board support, financial record-keeping, fundraising, and communications.

Position Details

  • Full-time employment based in Victoria
  • In office downtown (not remote)
  • $28.00 per hour for a 37.5 hour week ($54,600 per year)
  • Two weeks’ paid vacation to start; increasing over time to a maximum of four weeks’; in addition office is closed between Christmas and New Year’s Days
  • Five days paid sick leave
  • Starting ASAP
