Position: Finance & Accounting Coordinator
Organization: Salal Foundation
Location: fully remote within Canada

About the Role:

This is a temporary full time role (12-18 months)

The Finance & Accounting Coordinator provides support for the entire organization and its partners around finance, accounting, and related administration. The Finance Coordinator will be responsible for providing accurate, up-to-date financial information to help make informed decisions, meet our legal requirements and be accountable to funders and donors of the Salal Foundation and / or related organizations.

This position reports to the Finance & Administrative Lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Tracks income and expenses to project budgets.
  • Initiate and manage payments through online banking.
  • Run and maintain payroll and benefits programs.
  • Provide full-cycle bookkeeping services for several smaller nonprofits and charities.
  • Compile grant financial reports for funders.
  • Prepare financial, budget, and cash flow reports for the board and management.
  • Coordinate annual external audits.
  • Handle statutory reporting (e.g., GST, Workers’ Compensation, Charity Returns, Nonprofit Returns).
  • Develop and articulate bookkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Support general administrative tasks, including maintaining a shared filing system.
  • Other related tasks as required.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience, ideally in the non-profit or charitable sector.
  • Post secondary education in finance, accounting or bookkeeping or related field.
  • Professional Bookkeeper or Accountant Certifications would be an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience using Google Suite applications and advanced knowledge of spreadsheets (Google Sheets)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Experience with payroll systems and government reporting.
  • Familiarity with multi-project charities/nonprofits is an asset.

  • Comfortable working in a remote, entrepreneurial/start-up environment.
  • Self-managed accountability with the confidence to speak up when required.
  • Appreciation for the importance of the greater good; the successful candidate will understand the importance of people dedicating their lives to reconciliation, diplomatism, and environmental protection within Canada, and will proactively strive to achieve these goals.
