Homegrown Society is seeking enthusiastic stewardship coordinators to lead their land-based programs this summer and fall in Aurora.
About Us
Homegrown Society delivers nature-based programs that engage communities in environmental stewardship. Our aim is to deepen relationships with nature and place through environmental education and stewardship.
We strongly believe there is tremendous potential for delivering nature positive outcomes through neighborhood stewardship. By upholding a community science approach to land management, we strive to generate knowledge and tools that can be used to inform collaborative conservation decisions.
Project Overview
As the Stewardship Coordinator you will deliver engaging nature-based programming for our volunteers and community members in Aurora. You will share your knowledge and passion for the natural world with the community by leading hikes through our stewardship properties. Your keen eye for detail and awareness of your surroundings will allow you to create unique experiences for observing wildlife.
Your friendly communication style and skills in group facilitation will support participants in forming connections with each other and the landscape.
The Stewardship Coordinator will lead invasive species removals on both of our stewardship properties – totalling over 130 acres in the Aurora Highlands. Some travel to other sites in Aurora may also be required.
You will show volunteers how to identify and remove invasive species and use Avenza to record information on your progress. We are aiming to host a series of events through the season, engaging schools, our youth environmental committee and the wider community in this work.
We expect to run events May – November. Events typically happen on weekends (Saturday), but some availability during the week may be necessary when working with school groups. There may be some flexibility to coordinate events based on your availability.

Our intention for this job position is to bring facilitators that want to stay engaged with our projects through the long term to maintain continuity of relationships with youth and community members.
Honorariums between $50 and $100 per event will be provided based on experience. Mileage will also be reimbursed at a rate of $0.40/ km.
