Naturalist / Nature Interpreter

Location: 2929 Crane Rd, Ladysmith, near Duncan & Nanaimo BC (Vancouver Island)

Are you a fun, enthusiastic educator and lover of the outdoors? Do you thrive in forest environments, feel inspired by children’s curiosity, and want to make a difference through environmental education? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

The Ecoforestry Institute Society is seeking a seasonal part-time Naturalist to help lead place-based school programs, workshops, and public events at Wildwood Ecoforest — an 83-acre living classroom in the heart of the Coastal Douglas-fir ecosystem.

This role is ideal for someone seeking part-time or augmented employment—such as educators, students, freelancers, or early-career interpreters looking to gain experience in outdoor and environmental education.

Working closely with the Lead Naturalist and EIS Education Committee, you’ll help connect people of all ages with nature through engaging, ecology- and ecoforestry-based programs.

Position Details:

• Duration: August to October
• Hours: 20 hours/week
• Wage: $23/hour
• Experience working with school groups and young children is considered a strong asset.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education in a related field or 6+ months of experience working or volunteering as a nature interpreter, park naturalist, or in a similar public-facing role.
• Current knowledge and/or demonstrated capacity to learn about Vancouver Island’s native plants and wildlife.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Able to work remotely when not delivering programs.
