Municipal climate action, energy efficiency

Position: Energy Programs Specialist

Headquartered in Toronto, Climate Action Partnership (formerly Clean Air Partnership) was founded in the year 2000. We are a charitable environmental organization that works in partnership to implement climate action by reducing greenhouse gases and building healthy communities. The primary responsibility of the Energy Programs Specialist is to oversee the administration and delivery of municipal residential energy retrofit programs and to lead the growth of this program area.

Location:

This position is eligible for a hybrid work model with attendance at our Toronto office at Richmond & Spadina on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fully remote work will be considered for exceptional candidates.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Manager – Energy Programs, the Energy Programs Specialist will coordinate the implementation of our residential energy efficiency programs in alignment with our partner municipalities, and act as a supportive resource to municipalities interested in improving energy efficiency, transitioning from the use of fossil fuels as well as improving climate resiliency.

Other duties include reporting on program key performance indicators and lessons learned, designing and coordinating public outreach and engagement with community partners, creating retrofit program infrastructure (communications, websites, intake portals) reporting to program funders, and identifying long term funding sources for previously capitalized retrofit programs. The position will also assist in the delivery of other related climate action initiatives, such as green development standards, renewable energy, and resiliency measures for homes.

The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and in team environments, who can demonstrate sound judgment. The ideal candidate can take initiative, make informed decisions, and confidently advance projects with a solid understanding of when to act and when to seek input.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure effective teamwork and communication with a high degree of service for all municipal partners and other stakeholders in accordance with CAP standards
  • Ensure effective administration of the retrofit programs through coordination with program partners
  • Ensure ongoing communications and support for property owners through the entire energy upgrade financing process
  • Coordinate public engagement and communications strategies with community partners and municipal communications staff, including webinars and workshops with program participants and residents
  • Create and maintain project tracking database for the program
  • Monitor and assess implementation of program, including feedback from participants and staff, documenting all issues, risks, lessons learned, and program successes
  • Report on lessons learned with recommendations for improvement
  • Create feasibility studies and program designs for future programs
  • Support program development to expand CAP’s involvement in residential retrofit programs to other communities and increase the scope through related projects
  • Support other climate change related initiatives as directed by the Manager of Energy Programs, Operations Director, and Executive Director

Requirements:

  • A post-secondary education in a related discipline or field. (i.e. climate, environment, sustainability, energy, public policy) or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 2-3 years' related experience, particularly in the municipal sector. Energy related certifications or designations are an asset but not required
  • Familiarity with community energy retrofit programs and residential energy retrofit measures
  • Excellent project management, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills, with the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical and financial data
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience, communication skills (oral and written) and ability to translate and share technical information through plain language with homeowners
  • Analytical and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple, complex assignments with tight deadlines. Demonstrated skills working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • This position requires occasional travel and requires a valid G driver’s license

Compensation:

Full Time. $68,000 – $78,000. 15 days paid vacation. Health spending account and full pension offered after 6 months. We use a graded pay scale with defined annual increases for merit and inflation for all positions.
