Seasonal Farm Assistant – Market Garden (Holland Landing, ON)

Hiring: Farm Assistant
Farm: Forty4 Farms (Certified Naturally Grown)

Location: near Holland Landing, Newmarket, York Region, Ontario
Housing: No on-farm accom. Local candidates with transportation is crucial

We are a small, intensive market garden located in Newmarket, Ontario, growing a diverse mix of vegetables using ecological practices.

Production includes field crops and multiple hoophouses, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and consistency.

We are hiring 1 reliable, hard-working individual for the 2026 growing season.

Position Details

• Start Date: Late April / Early May (flexible)
• End Date: October (potential to extend)
• Hours: 30–50 hours/week depending on season
• Schedule: Weekdays + occasional weekend market days
• Location: Newmarket, ON (must have reliable transportation)
• Pay: $22–$25/hour depending on experience

Additional Incentive:

• End-of-season profit sharing bonus based on farm performance and individual contribution

What You’ll Be Doing

• Seeding, transplanting, and bed preparation
• Harvesting (fast-paced, quality-focused)
• Washing, packing, and organizing produce
• Hoophouse crop work (trellising, pruning, temperature management)
• Irrigation setup and monitoring
• General farm tasks and seasonal projects

This Job Is Physically Demanding

• Repetitive bending, lifting, and standing for long periods
• Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Working in heat, cold, rain, and humid hoophouses
• Fast-paced harvest days where efficiency matters

If you’re looking for a casual or low-effort summer job, this will not be a good fit.

• Reliability (shows up on time, every time)
• Strong work ethic and ability to maintain pace
• Attention to detail (especially during harvest and wash/pack)
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to work independently after training

Experience is an asset but not required. The right attitude matters more.

Nice to Have (Not Required)

• Previous farm or landscaping experience
• Experience with hand tools or irrigation
• Interest in small-scale farming or local food systems
