Simple Riches organic produce is a small-scale intensive vegetable and flower farm located on a beautiful 100-acre property just outside of Markdale, ON in Grey County. The property features a mix of gardens, pasture, forest, swamp and walking trails throughout. There is a vibrant community of small-scale organic farms and artisans living in the area and endless amounts of lakes, rivers and trails to explore.

How We Farm

We have just over 4 acres of the farm in production for vegetables, flowers and fruits.

We have one large greenhouse and three small tunnels for season extension and heat loving crops. We also have a heated greenhouse where we start all of the seedlings in the Spring.

We grow a large variety of crops for our CSA and two farmers’ markets. We aim to grow using minimal tillage and try to nurture the soil and ecology as much as possible.

We employ a variety of techniques to grow our crops which we will teach you about. Some of these include:

  • Composting
  • Mulching
  • Cover Cropping
  • Foliar Sprays
  • Integrated pest management
  • Fertigation
  • Companion planting
  • Soil and sap analysis

We also use lots of hand tools as well as small machinery to make our lives easier such as:

  • Compost spreader
  • Cultivation tractor
  • Bcs walk behind tractor
  • Paperpot transplanter

The Team

The farm is co-managed by Alex and Amanda. Amanda also runs her own operation on the property, focusing on strawberries, asparagus, corn, cut flowers, and animal care. We have two friendly dogs and three (mostly) friendly cats. 2026 will be our 5th year of production and we are excited to teach and work with you out in the field. We are very passionate about small-scale organic farming and are keen to share with you the knowledge and skills we have learned organically farming over the last 9 years.
