Farm: Paper Kite Farm

Location: Prince Edward County, Ontario
Housing Option: Subsidised on-farm housing available if needed.

The Basics

  • Part-time or Full-time (20-40 hours/week, you choose)

Love cooking with vegetables at their peak? Want to work where "farm to table" is literally 50 steps?

Paper Kite Farm is seeking a cook who thrives on transforming fresh-harvested bok choy, eggplants, and peppers into delicious, culturally grounded food. You'll prepare value-added products for market, support our seasonal farm dinners and picnics, and learn about the diverse Asian diaspora vegetables we grow.

About Paper Kite Farm

We're a regenerative market garden in Prince Edward County specialising in vegetables from the Asian diaspora—Chinese greens, unusual eggplants and peppers, and root crops that connect us to traditional foodways. We grow on 3/4 acres using no-till practices, committed to food sovereignty, preserving cultural food traditions, and building community through shared meals.

What You'll Do

Prepare value-added products like pickles, kimchi, sauces, and prepared foods for our weekly farmers' market and CSA programme. Execute seasonal farm dinners and picnics, from prep to plating to service. Assist with recipe testing and product development.

Some weeks you're prepping for market; other weeks you're hosting an intimate dinner for 20 under our pavilion. You'll work independently as you get comfortable with our rhythms, with opportunities to join harvest mornings or learn about farming when you want a break from the kitchen.

What We're Looking For

Solid cooking fundamentals and eagerness to learn. Comfortable with knife skills, following recipes, and working cleanly. You take direction well and work independently once you understand the task. You're adaptable, some days are relaxed prep, others are full dinner service mode.

Experience with Asian cuisines is valuable but not required. Most importantly, you're curious about where food comes from and motivated to connect people to local food systems through cooking.

Key Skills:

  • Basic prep work and cooking techniques
  • Food safety and proper handling
  • Cooking for groups of 10-30 people
  • Comfortable with physical work and varied settings

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Line cook, prep cook, or catering experience
  • Knowledge of Asian ingredients and cooking methods
  • Interest in fermentation, pickling, or preservation
  • Enthusiasm for learning about farming and food systems

Housing Option

Subsidised on-farm housing available if needed.
