Lands, Waters and Consultation Coordinator
Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Office and Community Relations Manager, the Lands, Waters and Consultation Coordinator plays a key role in advancing HSM’s environmental stewardship, regulatory review, consultation engagement, and emerging monitoring initiatives.

The Coordinator is responsible for reviewing development proposals, supporting technical assessments, participating in field-based activities, and contributing to the development and implementation of stewardship programs.

The Coordinator supports HSM’s long-term objective of strengthening internal capacity in lands and waters oversight, regulatory engagement, and environmental stewardship. The role works collaboratively with HSM staff and Council, government representatives, industry proponents, and partner organizations to advance HSM’s interests in environmental protection, responsible development, and stewardship of lands and waters.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Support environmental review and consultation processes on behalf of HSM;
2. Review development submissions and prepare written technical summaries and response materials;
3. Lead engagement activities with government, industry, and partner organizations;
4. Coordinate and attend meetings, site visits, and consultation-related activities;
5. Prepare monthly written reports for the Executive Director and Council;
6. Attend Council meetings as requested to present updates;
7. Participate in and contribute to field assessments, data collection, environmental sampling, and stewardship initiatives;
8. Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems, including regulatory documentation;
9. Participate in professional development and training relevant to the position;
10. Perform other related duties aligned with lands, waters, environmental oversight, and consultation activities.

Essential Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in environmental studies, environmental science, natural resources, or a related discipline at an accredited post-secondary institution (mandatory);
• Knowledge of Indigenous Rights in Canada and the crown’s duty to consult;
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
• Sound understanding of environmental legislation, regulatory processes, and development review;
• Ability to analyze complex materials and prepare written summaries and technical reports;
• Ability to attend site visits and field-based activities as required;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite;
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Asset Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Environmental Monitoring;
• Proficiency in GIS mapping and related software;
• Experience writing grant and funding proposals;
• Certified Seed Collector designation or seed collection experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Rate of Pay: Rate commensurate with experience, range of $37-$42 per hour
