JOB OPPORTUNITY

Position: Junior Environmental Consultant/Project Coordinator
Organization: Shared Value Solutions Ltd
Location: Remote, work from home from anywhere in Canada

Preference is given to candidates identifying as Indigenous, including First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.

Job Description:

  • Coordinating a wide range of projects and supporting the team with project planning, initiation, and execution tasks
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure our clients’ goals are met
  • Taking initiative and communicating effectively with project teams
  • Providing clear and concise report writing and presentation materials
  • Responding quickly and empathetically to client needs
  • Assisting with appropriate mitigation, compensation, and accommodation measures to address environmental and/or socio-economic-cultural impacts of major development projects
  • Assisting with the interpretation and integration of “traditional ecological knowledge” and land use and occupancy research for environmental approval processes
  • Liaising effectively with Indigenous clients, regulators and proponents

Requirements:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management, Political Science or similar work/community experience
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in environmental consulting
  • Experience in cumulative effects projects, environmental assessment, climate change and/or natural resource management.
  • Strong research skills; ability to gather information and interpret finding in clear and concise manner
  • Ability to interpret both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Excellent technical writing and analytical skills, including experience with data management and analysis, preparing technical reports, and communicating complex issues in plain language for a variety of audiences
  • Skills and experience working in cross-cultural settings, preferably with First Nation, Métis, and/or Inuit communities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Thrives in a team setting, accepts responsibility and works to deadlines
  • Willingness to travel across Canada and to northern and remote communities

Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, including experience in northern Ontario/Canada,
  • Experience planning and implementing communication and consultation programs and activities
  • Understanding of Canadian federal, provincial, and/or territorial legislation (e.g., Impact Assessment Act, Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act) and regulatory approvals and permitting processes Experience working as a consultant
  • Experience writing technical peer reviews and/or developing and delivering training on ecology, water resources, wildlife biology, environmental monitoring or a related field of study
