Hiring: Adventure Travel Operations Manager

Take the helm in BC’s eco-tourism industry. Join our expedition ship operations team, celebrated by National Geographic as the “Trip of a Lifetime,” and leverage your leadership experience to manage people and systems that keep our trips running smoothly.

About the role

In this senior leadership role you will lead a team in the travel operations department to support our three ships on their 4 to 11-day eco-tours through the wild west coast and Alaska by:

  • Overseeing trip operations and shore-based program operations
  • Recruiting, training and managing crew and shore staff
  • Ensure compliance with permits, safety standards and BC labour laws
  • Drive off-season projects, including maintenance planning and operational improvements
  • Own budget, KPI tracking and performance reporting
  • Champion customer and crew satisfaction by turning feedback into action

The successful candidate

You thrive in structured environments but can pivot quickly when the situation demands it, perhaps in hospitality leadership or similar experience. You optimize existing systems, lead with clarity, drive strategic outcomes and balance flexibility within structures inherent in a regulated industry. You are capable of taking the lead in incident response and are a strategic thinker even when priority-setting around time-sensitive issues.

Demonstrated Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary studies with applicable training in operations and /or tourism management, project management, or demonstrated equivalent in tourism and hospitality, eco-tourism or adventure tourism
  • Proficient understanding of human resources best practices in BC
  • At least five years of proven operations and people management experience including performance management, interviewing, and HR problem-solving
  • Demonstrated experience in managing to budgets and risk-adjusted decision-making
  • Ability to inspire a team to high levels of productivity and engagement in an awesome workplace culture
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and effective writing
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships, with personnel, suppliers and stakeholders across geographic and cultural boundaries

We are only able to consider candidates who are in the Victoria, BC, area. Given the complex nature of what we do and the importance of in-person team dynamics, remote work is available only on an occasional basis.

Work Week – office hours plus occasional on-call responsibilities on weekends and evenings

Salary - approximately $90,000, depending on experience, with review after probation
