Toronto Gardeners

Hiring: Gardeners (2 positions)
Employer: Common Ground Landscape Design
Location: Toronto ON. Please apply only if you live in the GTA.

At Common Ground Landscape Design we design and build gardens in the city of Toronto. Our customers' gardens are as diverse as the customers who enjoy them. Our primary focus is our attention to detail. We are paid hourly, giving us the time we need to properly weed, prune, edge, identify problems like infestations, design a new layout or imagine a Japanese Maple in a spot we hadn't thought of before. We work with our customers throughout the changing seasons. From Spring clean-ups, and planting annuals, right through to Fall bulb planting and putting the garden to bed.

We are looking for 1 full time gardener and 1 part time. We are looking for people who have a great work ethic, and work well with others and independently. Someone with a strong back who can work a full 8-8.5 hour day in the sun, rain or even snow. You must know the difference between a plant and a weed, and have experience pruning and deadheading various shrubs and perennials. You will have operated a lawn mower, a blower- electric or gas powered. You know how to edge, for a new flower bed or manage an existing flower bed. Experience in construction is also helpful.

It is important that you take direction well and respectfully. Most importantly, you have to have a good sense of humour, especially when the soil delivery is two hours late, the handle on the rake broke, it just started raining and your cell phone died. Being flexible in the face of obstacles is essential.

Most of our customers are residential, and we look after a busy downtown BIA.

Start date is immediately.  End: December 1st.

You need to have a driver's licence and feel comfortable driving in the city of Toronto, the highways and back country roads. You do not need to have your own vehicle. It is certainly helpful, but not necessary.

Some of the benefits of working for Common Ground.

We are a multi-generational bipoc and lgbt+ friendly company, and we respect all body types and ages. We all approach a problem from different perspectives, and we like that. Having a background in art, design or farming is also helpful. As much as we can be, we are organically based. Having said that, we do come across magnolia trees infested with scale, or roses ravaged by aphids where we have to intervene.

We work from 9-5:30 and are open to accommodating various needs if it's your day to pick up your kids from daycare, or you have other various pre-existing arrangements that need to be met.

I have been a gardener since 1995 and I have a lot to share, if you wish to learn.

We pay for 1 weekly class. Whether it's yoga, chi gong, rock climbing or a spinning class. Anything you need to do to keep your body supple and strong.

We have our own internal medical coverage program.

We work with safety in mind always, and we work with the WSIB to help keep you safe in the unlikely event of an accident.

Pay will be reflected by your experience at a /hour rate. We will only contact prospective employees.
