Seasonal Gardener

  • Wage: Commensurate on experience
  • Hours & Shift Information: 40 hours per week, generally 7:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday
  • Duration: Start – March/April, Completion - December
  • Reports: Head Gardener, Property Managers

Job Description:

This is a full-time seasonal position on a large farm estate based in Caledon, Ontario. This position focuses on the overall maintenance and presentation of the estate grounds, gardens, planting beds, and tree maintenance. Normal schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:30am – 4pm. The duties will primarily take place outdoors. The seasonal gardener will work both independently and in a team environment; and will generally work alongside the head gardener. At times, you may be asked to assist in supporting maintenance and barn teams when needed.

Roles and responsibilities can vary and are not exhaustive of the following:

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planting, maintaining and pest management of annual and perennial beds, vegetable gardens, grasses, formal gardens, pond vegetation
  • Assist in pruning fruit trees, shrubs, hedges, and other tree species
  • Assist with floral arrangements, seasonal and holiday arrangements and decorations
  • Assist with seeding and transplanting
  • Leaf and debris clean up throughout the grounds
  • Maintenance of greenhouse plants and general greenhouse upkeep

Requirements:

  • Practical knowledge of weeding, deadheading and trimming plants and flowers
  • Practical knowledge of edging and fertilizing gardens and planting beds
  • Knowledge of proper pruning practices is an asset
  • Experience with operating hedge trimmers and other small equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well within a team environment and independently
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to lift upwards of 50lbs & work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Hold a clean and valid Ontario G license
