Hiring: Food Literacy & Digital Marketing Coordinator
Type: ages 18-30 / summer

Terra Roots Community Association is a grassroots non-profit dedicated to increasing access to healthy local food and building food literacy in our community. We deliver hands-on educational programs, affordable produce initiatives, and community outreach activities that help individuals and families gain confidence in cooking and enjoying fresh, seasonal food.

We work closely with partner farms and community organizations to strengthen local food systems and support overall community well-being. Our programs empower residents with lifelong food skills, encouraging healthier eating habits and stronger social connections.

Our programs and services are primarily based in Port Coquitlam.

We are hiring the following position:

Food Literacy & Digital Marketing Coordinator

  • Hours of Work: 30 hours a week
  • Length of Opportunity: 9 weeks. Contract could be extended based on continued funding
  • Schedule: Some evenings and weekends as needed, Days, hours TBD
  • Wage: $20 per hour + 4% Vacation Pay
  • Location: Remote from home and in person work in Metro Vancouver.
  • Start Date: Monday June 15th, 2026

About this Role: Food Literacy & Digital Marketing Coordinator

This role will support Terra Roots’ community food access initiatives through digital media content creation, community engagement, and food education activities.

The successful applicant will develop educational content including cooking videos, recipe cards, website resources, and social media posts that highlight seasonal produce and healthy meal ideas. They will also support outreach at the local farmers’ market and assist with biweekly produce pickups, packing and delivery of our community food box program.

This role offers meaningful career experience in digital communications, marketing, web content management, community food systems, and program coordination.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and create appealing recipe content, meal-planning guides, and cooking suggestions for farmers’ market produce purchases.
  • Assist with updating the Terra Roots website with foodie related content: recipes and other blog-style posts. Updating members shop with produce etc.
  • Plan, develop and send out weekly (or periodic) newsletters and email updates to Trifecta Box subscribers and community supporters.
  • Assist with logistics for produce box distribution: coordinate communications about pick-up, help with organizing collection of produce, packing boxes, labeling, and assisting with pick-up and distribution.
  • Support the cooking demo tent at local farmers’ markets— prep materials, help run demos and engage with community members.
  • Support other administrative tasks as needed, record-keeping, updating digital folders/cloud storage, liaising with vendors/partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Must be between the ages of 18-30 as per the Canada Summer Jobs requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Demonstrated interest in food, sustainability, community health, or social-impact work.
  • Basic writing and digital-communication skills (comfortable writing newsletters, recipe content, social-media captions).
  • Familiarity with or interest in working with websites / web content (e.g., Wix, website editors, or willingness to learn).
  • Able to commit to summer-season hours and to occasional weekend commitments (e.g., farmers’ market).
  • Physically able to assist with light packing or produce box work (lifting boxes, organizing materials).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Responsible, dependable, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience or interest in cooking, healthy eating, food preservation, or nutrition.
  • Some experience with graphic design or layout (e.g., Canva or similar tools) to produce recipe cards or marketing visuals.
  • Experience volunteering or working in community service, non-profits, or market/farmer-market settings.
  • Interest in sustainability, local agriculture, and community food systems.
