Wildlife Field Work

Hiring: Bear Monitoring Technicians
Organization: Roe Environmental
Location: Squamish District, BC

*Priority will be given to applicants local to District of Squamish with demonstrated wildlife field experience.*

Position Summary:

Roe Environmental Inc. is seeking bear monitoring technicians to provide skillful monitoring and facilitate successful wildlife interactions during construction of a marine terminal at the Woodfibre LNG project near Squamish BC. Up to three (3) candidates are being sought, with daily transportation to/from Squamish to project site available for local candidates. Camp facilities will be available if night-shift is requested.

Position Term: Temporary contract throughout the typical observed bear activity window (current date - October) with potential for further employment opportunities.

Position Location: The position will primarily involve monitoring on the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish, BC.

Preferred Capabilities:

  • Physical fitness, strong work ethic, and team-minded attitude.
  • Familiarity with construction environments and safety-first mentality.
  • Demonstrated success in past field roles involving experience with black bears and other large mammals of the Pacific Northwest.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client and contractor communications.

Requirements:

Position likely to involve a 14 day on – 7 day off shift. Normal working days are likely to be up to 12 hours.

Preference Given to Candidates With:

  • Priority placement will be given to (1) Squamish Nation members and (2) Indigenous candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record.
  • Suitable academic background and/or experience with applied science biology work or other related field work.
  • Level 1 First Aid.

Compensation: $28/hour - $32.00/hour based on experience and training

Benefits:

  • Cell phone allowance.
  • Overtime in keeping with Canadian employment laws.
