About CPAWS-OV
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is Canada’s only charity dedicated to the protection of public land and water with a strong national and regional presence across the country. Working in a way that respects the sovereignty and leadership of Indigenous Nations, we are focused on conserving nature to respond to the dual crises of accelerated biodiversity loss and climate change.
The Ottawa Valley Chapter of CPAWS was first established in 1969 when a group of concerned citizens came together to try and protect the beloved Gatineau Park after learning of major development plans for the park. Since then, we have expanded our conservations efforts throughout the Ottawa River watershed, in both Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.
Job Description
The current position falls under our “Algonquin-Dumoine Connection” campaign, an effort to create an ecological corridor between Algonquin Provincial Park and the Dumoine Aquatic Reserve (an area of 1776km2 protected in 2008 thanks to the work of CPAWS). At its shortest distance, only 18km separate the two protected areas. The largest barrier preventing wildlife from roaming between the two areas is Highway 17.
In an attempt to identify wildlife mortality hotspots and implement mitigation measures, CPAWS-OV is conducting a road ecology study along Highway 17. With the help of the Manager of Ontario Conservation Projects, the successful candidate will coordinate the planning and implementation of the road ecology study. The project will utilize citizen science and volunteers to help with the data collection.
