Position: Field and Community Biologist
Organization: Turtle Guardians (of The Land Between charity)
Locations: Haliburton, Hastings, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, London area, Peterborough, and Muskoka

Turtle Guardians is seeking a motivated Field & Community Biologist to join our conservation team working across multiple sites throughout the Highlands region.
This is a structured, team-based position supporting applied turtle conservation, road mitigation, incubation programming, research, and public engagement under established protocols and supervision.
Position Overview
The Field & Community Biologist will work alongside senior staff to conduct turtle road patrol, assist with fencing and ecopassage initiatives, support incubation and hatchling care, collect field data, document conservation work through photography and videography, and deliver guided tours and outreach programming.
Travel between Highlands field sites may be required. Onsite interpretive programming only is an option.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct supervised turtle road patrols
• Safely handle and relocate turtles under permit protocols
• Support egg incubation and hatchling care
• Assist with installation and monitoring of wildlife fencing and ecopassages
• Collect and manage digital field data
• Capture high-quality photographs and video of fieldwork and wildlife
• Support production of outreach and reporting media
• Assist in delivering guided tours and community education events
• Maintain accurate field records
Requirements
• Background in biology, environmental science, or related field
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required
• Comfortable handling wildlife under supervision and permit
• Ability to work flexible hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends) during nesting season
• Comfortable working in rural roadside environments
• Physically capable of lifting equipment and working in variable terrain
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Basic photography and videography skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with reptiles or species-at-risk
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Experience supporting tours or public programming
• Familiarity with GIS or mobile data collection tools
• Basic photo or video editing skills
