Farmland preservation, Community organizing

Position: Rural Community Organizer
Organization: Sustainable Brant/Better Brant
Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee, 30 years or younger
Term: Immediate until March 31/26, full-time

Location: between Brantford and Ancaster, Ontario
Housing: option of on-site accommodation at Hearts Content Organic Farm

Do you have a knowledge of Brant County? 

Are you interested in working with the rural community to help it prevent sprawl?

Are you able to help facilitate community meetings related to protecting the rural environment, farmland succession, and rural history? 

Do you have any carpentry skills to help to renovate a rural community hub? 

Job Description:

You would be involved in helping with the following:

Facilitating community meetings related to 

  • promoting an inclusive rural community,
  • protection of farmland, natural heritage, built heritage and water,
  • conservation practices for farmers and landowners,
  • farmland transition models, to build an inclusive rural community, and to foster cooperatives.

 

Providing outreach:

  • to members of the rural community (newsletter, social media).

Helping 

  • our sister organization (Langford Conservancy) (achival work, minor construction, food rescue and redistribution) 

 
Application Details:

  • must be between 18 & 30 years old and legally allowed to work in Canada (a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status),
  • include a cover letter explaining why you are interested in this position and any relevant experience, and
  • provide two work references.

  • Eligibility: Must be between 18 & 30 years old.
  • Pay: $25/hour, 40 hours/week
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, occasional evening, or weekend

Assets:

  • Knowledge of land and environmental issues in Brant County
  • experience doing background research on issues
  • community outreach
  • hands-on construction skills 
  • WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp,
  • Driver’s license, and
  • one of the First Nations languages spoken at Six Nations and New Credit, or Spanish or Palestinian Arabic
  • Ability to commute or relocate before starting work (required).
