Position: Farmers Market Operations Coordinator

  • Employment Type: Contract, Part Time (up to 16 hours per week)
  • Salary Range: $28.40 - $32.44 hourly

Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Special Events Farmers Market Operations Coordinator plays an important role in delivering a safe, organized, and successful Aurora Farmers Market. Working closely with the Market Coordinator, this position helps oversee key operational functions and provides hands-on support to ensure smooth market-day logistics. This role supports vendors, volunteers, and community partners while helping create a welcoming and vibrant market experience. It’s an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys event operations, problem-solving, and working in a dynamic outdoor environment while supporting local businesses and the local food system.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordinating a diverse mix of vendors offering high-quality, locally produced goods.
  • Support vendor placement and electrical power needs while maintaining clear and professional vendor communication.
  • Provide on-site operational support including setup and teardown of market infrastructure such as tents, tables, signage, and barricades.
  • Coordinate vendor load-in and load-out, stall setup, and road closures to ensure efficient market operations.
  • Provide electrical connections for designated vendors and oversee basic site infrastructure needs.
  • Support waste management, site cleanliness, and washroom monitoring throughout the market day.
  • Help identify and address potential safety risks before, during, and after market operations.
  • Respond to incidents and follow procedures for emergencies, severe weather, or operational issues.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the Aurora Farmers Market in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attend meetings and support additional operational projects as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in farmers markets, special event operations, community programming, or similar roles.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting event logistics, vendor coordination, or operational planning.
  • Current First Aid/CPR-C & AED, Working at Heights, and Electrical Safety Authority Level 1 certifications (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Must be available to work on-site Saturdays from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from April to October

Successful applicants to this position will be required to provide a Police Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to the Town prior to their start date at the applicants’ own cost.
