Position: Experiential Programs Lead

Do you have a knack for designing, coordinating, and delivering dynamic programs that inspire curiosity and appreciation for the natural world? If so, we want you to be part of our team at the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) as our Experiential Programs Lead!

About the Role

As the Experiential Programs Lead, you will develop and deliver innovative nature-based programs that enhance visitor experiences and support RBG’s mission. From gardening and birding to canoeing and wellness initiatives, you’ll craft and oversee high-quality, immersive offerings that captivate diverse audiences. Your role will ensure seamless program execution, audience engagement, and the achievement of revenue goals while also mentoring and guiding seasonal staff and program facilitators. This is a 12-month contract with an opportunity for extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design engaging, relevant programs that respond to visitor needs and align with RBG’s strategic goals.
  • Refine existing offerings based on feedback, participation trends, and industry developments.
  • Use data to evaluate success and guide future planning, reporting on outcomes as needed.
  • Coordinate program delivery, ensuring all elements—from materials to staffing—are in place.
  • Communicate clearly with participants regarding expectations, schedules, and requirements.
  • Support select festivals and events with logistical planning and interactive elements.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee seasonal staff, instructors, and volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and performance feedback.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive environment that ensures program quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to manage listings, update platforms, and promote programs.
  • Track budgets, expenses, and participation to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Maintain detailed records to support transparency and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Experience in experiential and nature-based education, with strong interpretive and engagement strategies.
  • Expertise in program evaluation methods—both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Familiarity with budgeting practices and risk management protocols.
  • Understanding of child protection and emergency procedures in program contexts.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organization and time management.
  • Confident leadership and mentoring style.
  • Skilled communicator and relationship-builder across teams and stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset for evaluating program performance and visitor feedback.
  • Proficiency with digital tools including registration platforms, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office.
