Climate and Energy Research Internship

Position: Research and Admin Officer (Intern)
Organization: QUEST Canada
Location: Virtual office: Can work from anywhere in Canada.

The Motivating Net-Zero Action in Rural, Remote, and Indigenous Communities (MNZA) initiative is a pan-Canadian research project focused on understanding what drives smaller communities to take action on climate and energy, and how intersectional and equity-based approaches can support their pathways to net-zero. The project includes interviews, community workshops, and visioning sessions, and will inform tools and resources to support community-led net-zero action.

Position Overview
The Research and Admin Officer will play a key supporting role on the MNZA project, assisting with research administration, community engagement logistics, and communications. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in community-based research, climate and energy policy, Indigenous engagement, or nonprofit project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Wrap-Up & Research Support
  • Support final organization and synthesis of interview, focus group, and visioning session notes
  • Assist in identifying and highlighting key themes, insights, and community priorities from the data
  • Help prepare internal and public-facing summary documents, slide decks, or infographics
  • Assist in reviewing and formatting final project outputs, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Support the creation of community-specific Net-Zero Pathway documents

Knowledge Sharing & Communications

  • Help draft content for newsletters, blogs, and social media posts summarizing project findings
  • Support preparation of final project reports and presentations for diverse audiences: partners, funders, and community participants
  • Assist with developing communications and outreach materials to share findings
  • Coordinate logistics and content for webinars, podcasts, or community debriefs, if applicable

Administrative & Coordination Support

  • Organize and archive project documentation (e.g. transcripts, notes, images, consent forms)
  • Maintain up-to-date records of community engagement and outputs delivered
  • Help track reporting deadlines, funder requirements, and communications commitments
  • Provide support in coordinating final meetings with partners, advisors, or communities

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or diploma in Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Geography, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Comfortable working independently and in a remote environment
  • Interest in climate action, equity, and community engagement
  • Experience working with rural, remote, or Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Experience with transcription, research analysis, or workshop facilitation is an asset
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and online collaboration tools

Compensation & Benefits

  • Contract (12-week), full-time position
  • Competitive pay ($23/hour)
