Help Grow Research that Supports Sustainable Natural Resource Management

The Bulkley Valley Research Centre (BVRC) is seeking a Manager, Research Development & Partnerships to help expand our research programs by building partnerships, identifying funding opportunities, and developing collaborative research initiatives. 

This role is ideal for an early- to mid-career professional who enjoys connecting people, ideas, and funding opportunities to support meaningful environmental research.

Working closely with BVRC leadership, researchers, community partners, and First Nations, you will help develop new research initiatives that address natural resource challenges across British Columbia.

The Bulkley Valley Research Centre (BVRC) is an independent nonprofit research organization based in Smithers, BC, on Gitdumden Clan territory of the Wet’suwet’en Nation. BVRC supports collaborative, high-quality research that informs natural resource stewardship and decision-making across British Columbia. The Opportunity

The Manager, Research Development & Partnerships plays a key role in expanding BVRC’s research portfolio by identifying funding opportunities, supporting proposal development, and building strategic partnerships.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Project Leads, you will help connect research ideas with collaborators and funding opportunities.

This role blends strategy, relationship-building, and hands-on proposal development and offers the opportunity to grow your expertise in research development and partnership leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities aligned with BVRC’s research priorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, First Nations, researchers, universities, government agencies, industry partners, and community organizations.
  • Lead or support the development of funding proposals and collaborative research initiatives.
  • Work with Project Leads to develop ideas into competitive research proposals.
  • Represent BVRC at conferences, meetings, and partnership events.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and synergy across BVRC research initiatives.
  • Support knowledge mobilization activities that share research findings with partners and communities.

What You Bring

  • Graduate degree in environmental science, natural resource management, public policy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with research development, grant writing, partnership development, or collaborative projects.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with diverse partners across sectors.
  • Interest in environmental research, natural resource stewardship, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and proposal writing skills.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and the ability to connect ideas, people, and opportunities.
  • Experience working with or alongside Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous governance frameworks is an asset.
