Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Climate Tech Solutions, the Research and Program Coordinator will support research projects and programs in the Centre for Climate Change Management. The incumbent will support the Centre’s mission to accelerate the implementation of decarbonization solutions through collaborations with our industry, community, and government partners.

The Research and Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and delivering the Sustainable Futures Initiative capstone program, which will engage 600+ students over 4 years in applied research capstone projects. The incumbent will lead the development, planning, execution and reporting on this program, which aims to give a diverse range of students with the opportunity to learn from real-life sustainability, circularity, and climate change challenges.

The Research and Program Coordinator will also meaningfully contribute to the CCCM’s applied projects and partnerships by coordinating day-to-day project activities including, but not limited to stakeholder outreach and management, project planning, research analysis and report reporting.

The Research and Program Coordinator will also assist with reporting, communications and outreach. The incumbent will coordinate the collection and analysis of performance metrics and KPIs and will also support communications activities such as social media, event planning, and public presentations.

What you’ll be doing:

Supports the development, implementation, and operations of the CCCM’s student capstone program

  • Under the direction of the Manager Climate Tech Solutions, assist in developing appropriate and engaging learning content for capstone programming in coordination with CCCM researchers and academic staff. Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate delivery in line with academic calendars and academic delivery needs.
  • Develop and execute program schedules and workplans, to be approved by Manger.
  • In coordination with the Manager, CCCM staff, and academic staff, develop engaging ways to deliver capstone content.
  • Assist with limited project budgets according to budget plans approved by the Manager.
  • Coordinate reporting and metrics collection, in line with expectations from funders and stakeholders.
  • Develop communication and reporting opportunities to share success with stakeholders. Analyze results and provide ideas for improvement and growth.
  • Ensure that a wide range of students can engage in the learning opportunities provided. Research opportunities to support greater outreach and engagement.
  • Act as a delegate and champion of the capstone program at networking events and in interactions with partners, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Under the guidance of Manager, develop communications assets and present information on the program in various written and oral formats.

Supports the coordination and delivery of CCCM research projects

  • Assist in tracking relevant industry trends and develop briefing materials analyzing trends in sustainability, circularity, and climate change.
  • Assist in complying and analyzing literature reviews. This may include using AI to conduct deep research reports and briefings. Develop appropriate prompts and evaluate responses for hallucinations, misrepresentations, bias, and other problems that could challenge the accuracy of these reports.
  • With support from Project Managers, coordinate stakeholder relationships for research projects.
  • Assist with research project planning and execution.
  • Collect data and organize information required for research projects.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and communications for research projects.
  • Delegate limited project tasks to student employees, providing mentoring and coaching as needed.
  • Assist in presentation of findings, including developing oral and written reports and presentations.
  • Ensure that sensitive research information is kept confidential.

Support the CCCM’s communications and reporting

  • Assist with reporting and metrics collection for the CCCM. Organize and track information.
  • With support from the GM and IDEAWORKS business development team, develop appropriate communications strategies to engage potential and existing partners and stakeholders.
  • Develop communication assets and support outreach activities.

Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A 4-year degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Sustainability, or Business Management with a concentration on sustainability or climate change.
  • A Master’s degree or professional certification in a climate-related concentration, such as engineering in public policy, sustainable energy systems, and/or sustainable business management, would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • Experience in working in multi-stakeholder collaborative projects.
  • Experience in supporting project planning, coordination, and reporting.
  • Experience in leading communications activities and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
