About the Jijuktu’kwejk Watershed Alliance

The Jijuktu’kwejk* Watershed Alliance was formed in 2016 to restore and protect the ecological health of the Jijuktu’kwejk (Cornwallis) River watershed in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, through science, leadership, and community engagement. We are a charitable, non-governmental community-based organization: As a group of scientists, students, volunteers, organizations and individuals, we are pooling our combined knowledge, skills and experiences to make the Jijuktu’kwejk River a cleaner, safer, more beautiful river.

*pronounced “jee-joog-doo-gway-edge-kuh”

Our vision is a swimmable, drinkable and fishable Jijuktu’kwejk River. To move toward this vision, the association will achieve the following objectives:

  • To identify and assess environmental stressors and their impacts to the Jijuktu’kwejk (Cornwallis) River and neighbouring watersheds in order to contribute to sound environmental management.
  • To regularly undertake and report on environmental sampling and monitoring of the Jijuktu’kwejk (Cornwallis) River and neighbouring watersheds.
  • To develop and implement ecosystem enhancement, restoration and protection projects in order to improve the environmental health of the Jijuktu’kwejk (Cornwallis) River watershed and neighbouring watersheds for the benefit of the public.
  • To develop and implement public outreach, engagement and education programs that steward environmentally conscious community behaviour and land use.

We are looking for a leader who can keep our summer program on track as well as think big and longer term. The Watershed Alliance is completing a strategic plan, which will guide the organization, and the Operations Manager will help us realize our vision. We are looking for someone who can get the small jobs done and also take time to think big and work on grants, relationship building, equity, reconciliation, health and safety, and other reporting.
