2 Positions: Greater Victoria Green Team Program Manager
Organization: Green Teams of Canada

Do you love bringing people together, building community, and making a tangible difference for the environment?

Green Teams of Canada is seeking TWO Greater Victoria Green Team Program Managers to lead hands-on environmental stewardship activities that connect people to nature, strengthen communities, and improve local ecosystems.

This isn't just another job. It's an opportunity to inspire hundreds of people each year, help restore local habitats, and directly see and experience the impact of your work.

About Green Teams of Canada

Green Teams of Canada (GTC) is an award-winning charity that connects, builds, and empowers diverse communities through hands-on environmental activities.

Through our programs, people:

  • Build meaningful social connections and a sense of belonging
  • Connect with nature and deepen their relationship with the environment
  • Improve their well-being
  • Learn about environmental issues and solutions
  • Develop leadership and teamwork skills
  • Make a positive impact in their communities and are empowered to take further action

As a Program Manager, you'll lead and support 50+ hands-on ecological restoration and environmental stewardship activities, including invasive species removal, native planting, litter clean-ups, and other community-based environmental projects.

GTC is hiring two Program Managers who will work closely together to support and grow the program. While some activities will be delivered together, each Program Manager will also independently lead activities and take ownership of responsibilities. This structure provides opportunities for collaboration, mutual support, and professional growth.

This role combines community leadership, environmental education, community recruitment and outreach, relationship-building, logistics coordination, social media, and program development. No two days are exactly alike.

Position Snapshot

Job Title: Greater Victoria Green Team (GVGT) Program Manager (2 positions available)
Salary: $55,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)
Work Distribution: Weekday and weekend work is required. Most environmental stewardship activities take place on weekends, particularly between March–June and September–November.

Location: Greater Victoria, BC
Start Date: As soon as possible
Application Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until both positions are filled.
Work Ratio: 75-80% virtual and around 20-25% in-person (subject to change based on confirmed activities)

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and lead 50+ environmental stewardship activities annually, with and without additional staff
  • Create and disseminate outreach and social media content
  • Recruit and communicate with participants
  • Communicate with partners on activity logistics
  • Manage supplies, tools, in-kind donations, transportation of all activity equipment, and safety procedures
  • Engage, educate, mentor, supervise and empower participants of all ages
  • Take photos and videos to document impact and tell compelling stories
  • Measure and communicate environmental and community impacts
  • Support organizational growth, fundraising and program development

Reality of the Role

While leading community environmental activities in-person is an important part of this role, most of the work happens behind-the-scenes. This position involves significant outreach, communications, logistics coordination, relationship-building and administration; all of which is remote computer work. Applicants should be excited by both the community-facing and behind-the-scenes aspects of the role.

Characteristics of Successful Program Managers:

  • People Person: Enjoys meeting new people, building community, and creating meaningful connections between people and nature.
  • High-Energy Leader: Comfortable commanding and engaging large, diverse crowds (40+ people) in outdoor settings.
  • Self-Starter: Takes initiative, thrives independently, and knows when to ask for support.
  • Adaptable & Resilient: Highly organized and solution-focused; able to manage multiple priorities, navigate setbacks, and adapt when plans, people, or conditions change.
  • Effective Communicator: Communicates clearly, professionally, and proactively, building strong relationships while keeping participants, partners, and projects moving forward.
  • Content Creator: Comfortable appearing on camera and interviewing participants to highlight the program's impact.
  • Ownership Mindset: Takes pride in their work, follows through on commitments, and actively looks for ways to strengthen the program and participant experience.

This role combines independent work, collaborative planning and problem-solving, and high-energy, physically demanding field days in a variety of weather conditions.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this role is witnessing the difference your work makes. You'll see people inspired, communities strengthened and habitats restored. You'll also hear participants share how activities helped them build friendships, connect with nature, gain confidence, and feel a stronger sense of belonging.

We know this is a unique position with a lot of different components. If this role excites you and you believe you'd thrive in this environment, we encourage you to apply.
