Position: Sustainability & Education Coordinator
Organization: The Gaia Project

Location: Hybrid (Fredericton-based office), New Brunswick

Term: One-year contract (with potential to extend)
Eligibility: Youth aged 18–30 at the start of employment (grant funded position).

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible hours; some evenings/weekends for events
  • Travel: Regular travel within New Brunswick during school year
  • Compensation: $45,000-$55,000 annually depending on experience (37.5 hrs/week); access to health benefits and professional development funding support after 6 months
  • Start Date: July 2026 (Flexible)

About the Role

The Sustainability & Education Coordinator supports the delivery and development of The Gaia Project’s climate change education programs in schools and communities across New Brunswick. This entry‑level green job focuses on engaging youth in hands‑on learning about climate change, sustainability, and our relationship with the natural world.

The role is structured as an early‑career development opportunity, combining mentorship and formal training with practical experience in STEM-based environmental education, science communication, community engagement, and nonprofit program coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Coordination

  • Travel to New Brunswick schools and community sites to occasionally lead and support environmental education programming.
  • Prepare materials, manage logistics, and coordinate flexible schedules with teachers to ensure smooth program delivery.
  • Work closely with teachers and The Gaia Project staff to create positive, engaging learning experiences for students and educators.

Program Development & Evaluation

  • Support the development, adaptation, and revision of new and existing programs, incorporating current climate and sustainability topics and youth perspectives.
  • Assist with maintaining program equipment and resources.
  • Contribute to basic evaluation activities by collecting feedback, reflections, and observations to support continuous improvement.

Outreach, Engagement & Partnerships

  • Support program recruitment, storytelling, and outreach activities.
  • Represent The Gaia Project at relevant meetings, school visits, and community events.
  • Assist with light fundraising and partnership tasks, including supporting grant applications or attending partner meetings.
  • Assist with light communication tasks.

Candidate Requirements

  • Youth aged 18–30 at the start of employment (grant funded position).
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Available for full‑time work (37.5hrs/week for 12 months).
  • Post‑secondary education (completed or in progress) in environmental studies, education, sustainability, or a related field OR relevant lived, volunteer, or community experience.
  • Strong interest in environmental education, science communication, STEM, climate action, and working with high school students.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and working in school environments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; reliable and adaptable.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage a flexible work schedule with teachers to effectively deliver programs while balancing additional responsibilities.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently, with strong collaboration skills in a team setting.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within New Brunswick on a regular basis.
  • Have a clean criminal background less than 3 years old and willing to provide a vulnerable sector background check upon receiving a conditional job offer.

Asset

  • Fluency in both French and English, with the ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken contexts.
