Location: Kingston to Brockville area (in-person field work and remote tasks), but the candidate will be working from home most of the time

• Duration: 8 weeks, 30 hours per week
• Wage: $20.00/hour
• Start Date: Flexible — must begin no later than July 6, 2025
• Possibility of Continued Employment: Potential to continue as an hourly position during the school year (~10 hours/month)

About the A2A Collaborative

The Algonquin to Adirondacks (A2A) Collaborative is a federally incorporated nonprofit organization and a registered Canadian and U.S. charity. We connect lands and people across the Algonquin to Adirondacks region to conserve and enhance a critical corridor for ecological integrity and resilience in eastern North America. We work with partner organizations, Indigenous communities, and local landowners to support wildlife movement, habitat restoration, sustainable land use, and public engagement with conservation.

This isn't just a summer job; it’s an opportunity to be the face of the Frontenac Safe Passage campaign. You will be on the ground in the Kingston-to-Brockville corridor, sparking meaningful conversations at farmers' markets and community events that will directly influence the future of wildlife conservation in our region.

As a small but mighty non-profit, we offer a "behind-the-scenes" look at how conservation actually happens. You won’t be siloed in one task; you’ll wear many hats — from event planning and communications to general administration — giving you a 360-degree view of the non-profit world.

The Details:

• The Mission: Building local awareness and engagement for wildlife crossings.
• The Experience: Hands-on community outreach, digital communications, and organizational support.
• The Future: While this is a summer position, the right candidate may continue with us on a part-time basis (~10 hours/month) throughout the school year.

Key Responsibilities

Frontenac Safe Passage Campaign Outreach

• Table at farmers markets, festivals, and community events throughout the Kingston-to-Brockville region to raise public awareness of the Frontenac Safe Passage campaign
• Set up and take down display boards, tables, and promotional materials at events
• Engage members of the public in meaningful conversations about wildlife corridors, road ecology, and A2A’s conservation work
• Attend Road Ecology report presentations and assist in advocacy and awareness activities

Event Planning & Coordination

• Help plan, organize, and facilitate community events in the Kingston-Brockville area aimed at raising awareness of A2A campaigns and conservation initiatives
• Liaise with partner organizations and local communities to coordinate stewardship and habitat restoration events

Communications & Administration Support

• Support the development of promotional content for A2A communication channels, including the website, social media, and newsletter
• Provide general administrative support to the Executive Director and the organization as needed
• Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, event attendance, and campaign contacts

Required Qualifications

• Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred, and be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Valid Canadian driver’s licence and access to a reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided)
• Lives in or near the Kingston to Brockville area (travel to events throughout this corridor is required)
• Strong verbal communication skills — comfortable speaking with members of the public in a variety of settings
• Physical ability to carry and set up display boards, tables, and promotional materials at outdoor events
• Passion for environmental conservation, wildlife, and community engagement
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Post-secondary education (completed or in progress) is preferred

Assets

• Familiarity with the Frontenac region and local conservation issues
• Experience with social media, content creation, or nonprofit communications
• Previous experience in public outreach, tabling, or event coordination
