Contract Position

Position: Marketing/Communications Coordinator
Organization: BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association
Location: Burlington Beach (Hybrid opportunity for candidates living in or nearby Burlington, Ontario

Thanks to Eco Canada funding support, we have a terrific 6-month employment contract, with the opportunity for extension!

  • Position: Marketing coordinator
  • Hybrid opportunity: BurlingtonGreen headquarters located at Burlington Beach, Burlington
  • Reporting to: Executive Director, BurlingtonGreen Environmental Association
  • Hours/Duration: 35 hours/week from October, 2025 to end of March, 2026 with opportunity for extension. Primarily daytime work with some weekend shifts, and occasional evenings.
  • Hourly Rate: $22/hr

About this rewarding opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate, organized, flexible, self-motivated, experienced professional to join our team serving as our Marketing Coordinator, responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of all promotions of our environmental programs, events, and services and various environmental topics.

Programming areas to advance our strategic plan include:

  • Climate Change & low carbon living solutions such as Make the Switch and our active transportation and e-mobility, and energy conservation and retrofit programming
  • Nature-Friendly Burlington programming and biodiversity/nature research and habitat restoration activities, and community education
  • Zero-waste programs and events and services

Responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Educate and engage with our online and in-person audience on a number of important environmental topics including resources to help the community switch to sustainable alternatives;
  • Coordinate our organization’s social media engagement by creating and scheduling environmental content/opportunities across our various platforms (Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X);
  • Leverage digital and analytics tools such as Hootsuite. Mailchimp and Google Analytics to enhance all digital platform performance;
  • Create content for the organization’s website;
  • Design and write content for various digital communications and marketing materials including e-newsletters, speaking notes, press releases and reports;
  • Prepare quarterly analytics reports gathering, tabulating and analyzing data for all online and in-person community interactions;
  • Manage data for the 200k Eco Actions campaign, including calculating impact metrics such as GHG reductions;
  • Gather monthly statistics for various operations for impact reporting purposes;
  • Participate in annual assets inventory project, tracking and tallying organization’s supplies and equipment, reporting to google spreadsheets;
  • Contributing to environmental project workplans capturing key marketing strategy actions to ensure professional, organized, smooth flowing experiences for project/event participants
  • Serve as lead promotions coordinator for various events, services and programs, providing tech assistance for in-person events ( video, photography, on screen presentations) and online events ( Google Meet, Facebook Live and Instagram Live);
  • Document relevant information, milestones and evaluation data and prepare documents, correspondence and background materials for meetings and events, including creating summary reports and presentation materials as needed;
  • Serve as a key point of contact for BurlingtonGreen communications including for media correspondence, and establish and nurture collaborations with relevant stakeholders, agency funders and community organizations as well as the general public;
  • Assist with the organization, execution and evaluation of various environmental programs, events and services;
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities to engage youth in various environmental programs, campaigns, and projects;
  • Work with our team of professionals to recruit and support the work of volunteers;
  • Represent the core values of BurlingtonGreen in the community, coordinating and delivering outreach activities including public speaking presentations to a variety of audiences;
  • Execute expenditures as per approved budget process;
  • Work in accordance with applicable health and safety legislation, policies and procedures;
  • Perform work and assignments accurately and according to professional standards;

Educational and skill development for the successful candidate will be extensive and varied in the areas of research, written and oral communications, presentations to diverse audiences/community sectors, program facilitation, leadership, digital platform(s) navigation and analytics, content and creative design work, time management, organizational planning, evaluation, metrics tracking, team and volunteer collaboration, creative problem solving, and habitat restoration fieldwork stewardship skills.

Qualifications:

As a strong candidate, you have a passion for helping to achieve maximum environmental impact by effectively educating and engaging the community to create a healthier, more environmentally responsible Burlington and attain the folllowing qualifications:

  • A combination of post-secondary education/experience in a relevant field such as environmental science, outdoor education, community programming, public relations, communications, project management
  • Proficiency with various social media platforms,Google Workspace tools, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, and Canva graphic design software
  • Excellent research, analytical, evaluation and reporting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skills including speaking in front of groups in person and online
  • Detail-oriented, extremely organized, conscientious with top-notch time management, multi-tasking skills
  • Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience delivering creative, engaging education programs, community presentations, and events to a diverse audience
  • Experience preparing work plans and organizational forms to capture logistics and planning actions with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic and creative self-starter, with demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, including performing functions related to community outreach and environmental stewardship, such as digging, planting, pruning, weeding
  • Knowledge of environmental issues in Burlington and commitment to the environment as demonstrated through previous volunteer commitments and/or employment
  • Available some evenings and weekends and holidays, ideally residing locally so able to travel within Halton Region, with a current valid driver’s license and access to a car including to transport supplies to and from events in Burlington, Ontario
  • An understanding and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusivity
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening Report (will be requested on offer of hire)
  • Completion of AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) training (will be requested on offer of hire)

Qualifications – desirable:

  • Experience in a charitable, non-profit environment
  • Valid Emergency First Aid + CPR
  • Experience with Mailchimp and WordPress
