Position: Education Programs Coordinator
Organization: Royal Botanical Gardens
Location: Burlington / Hamilton area, Dundas, Ontario

Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is seeking a passionate and experienced Garden Programs Coordinator to lead the development and delivery of innovative, curriculum-connected programs at our newly redeveloped Laking Garden site. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of education, sustainability, and community engagement.

About the Role

The Garden Programs Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing garden-based educational experiences for children and youth. This includes overseeing school programs, coordinating seasonal staff and volunteers, and ensuring high-quality program delivery that aligns with RBG’s strategic priorities.

This is a 1-year contract opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine K–12 school programs focused on gardening, agriculture, and sustainability.
  • Coordinate and execute educational and child-focused programs at Laking Garden.
  • Manage program schedules, logistics, and resources to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align programs with organizational goals.
  • Evaluate program success using feedback, participation data, and financial performance.
  • Prepare reports to support planning and decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively with program participants regarding schedules and expectations.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing support and performance feedback to staff and facilitators.
  • Work with Marketing to manage program listings and registration platforms.
  • Track program budgets, participation, and expenses to meet financial targets.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in garden-based education, interpretive programming, or environmental learning.
  • Strong planning and logistics coordination skills.
  • Familiarity with program evaluation methods and budgeting practices.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and child protection policies.
  • Proficiency with digital tools for scheduling, communication, and registration.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Leadership and team supervision experience.
  • Collaborative mindset for working across departments and with external partners.
  • Analytical skills for assessing program performance.
