Ecological & Organic Farming

Position: Ecological Farm Worker (Fall 2025)
Organization: Bhumiyinda Farm
Location: Milton, Ontario

Bhūmiyinda Farm is an organically-managed farm located on the edge of Milton, Ontario (just north of Appleby/Derry) that sells a large variety of vegetables and fruit through a CSA program. The farm uses no-till and ecological growing practices, such as cover cropping, deep mulching, making compost, and farming with only hand tools.

About this role

Duration: ASAP to December, 2025
Hours: 15-30 hours per week based on weather conditions. Hours would be distributed to support the flexible nature of farm work.
Pay: $20-22/hr, based on experience level.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with field work, which includes end-of-season clean up, weeding, preparing beds, mulching and harvesting.
  • Helping with infrastructure/building tasks and maintaining hand-tools/equipment.
  • Supporting problem-solving and collaborating to find creative solutions when an issue arises.

Eligibility Requirements (this position is funded by a grant):

  • Able to start this position ASAP.
  • Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive)
  • Is unemployed or underemployed.
  • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or a status refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Is an individual facing barriers in the workplace (examples of barriers include: living with a physical or mental disability, racialized or indigenous youth, recent newcomer to Canada, residing in a remote, northern and/or fly-in community, living in a low income household, single parent, early leaver of high school).

Required experience/skills:

  • Experience working outdoors in a fast paced environment. Previous experience in organic farming/market gardening is highly valuable.
  • Having physical endurance/fitness levels to be able to perform physical tasks (repetitive bending over/squatting, working at an efficient pace, safely lifting up to 30 pounds).
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions (excluding extreme weather).
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Able to maintain a positive attitude and be comfortable with the emergent and unpredictable nature of farming.
  • A genuine interest in farm work.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary; we are not near any public transport.
