Positions: Forest Immersion Camp Leader

Location: There are two locations for this position - Kimberley & Collingwood, Ontario. Please apply if you are able to commute to either location, or one of the locations.

Hundred Acre Wood is looking for outdoorsy, organized, kid-loving staff to lead our summer forest immersion camp programs.

We are a licensed non-profit preschool centre in Heathcote ON. We have an operating daycare of 21 little ones that runs year round. We are situated on 100 acres of meadow and forested land, with an indoor facility that reflects our outdoor learning philosophy.

As a camp leader, you will plan and deliver programming that fits our philosophy and engages campers. Some days will include guest programming and some days will take place off site - ie. the beach. You will work with children of ages 4-6 or 7-9.

You are comfortable being outside in all sorts of conditions including sunshine, rain, heat, cold, and are comfortable with all elements of nature including bugs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Experience working with groups of children
  • An affinity for the natural world – either some education in this field or self-education and experience
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening done within the past 12 months
  • Must be physically able to assist children as required – (eg. Lifting, getting up and down from the floor frequently)
  • Must be prepared to dress appropriately for weather and conditions in order to be comfortable outside for long periods of time and at all times of the year ie. rain paints, bug jacket, etc.
  • Must have an understanding of camp policies and procedures and adhere to them at all times
  • The ability to provide outstanding customer service to children and parents
  • Strong communication skills via text, phone, and email

Job Duties

  • Plan and facilitate nature based programming that is modern, inclusive, and exceeds industry standards
  • Apply principles of emergent learning, child-led learning, and active inquiry
  • Care for and connect with each child
  • Oversee the health and well-being of all program participants
  • Communicate professionally with parents and staff
  • Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to administrative, gardening, cleaning and cooking when possible

Assets

  • National Lifeguard certification (NLS)
  • A current University or College student or graduate
  • Camp leader/teaching experience
