Position: Environmental Advisor
Organization: Recycling Council of BC
Location: Remote, must live in BC, Vancouver area preferred

Position Summary:

The Environmental Advisor plays a key role in supporting residents and businesses across British Columbia by providing reliable, accessible information about the circular economy, pollution prevention hierarchy, and waste management services. RCBC answers over 30,000 calls annually from BC residents from two phone lines, one BC wide recycling line and a second regional waste management facility line. This role helps people make informed, sustainable decisions—whether it’s about waste avoidance, recycling, or navigating provincial regulations and programs.

Environmental Advisors also contribute to maintaining the accuracy of our data and resources, ensuring that the information we share is current, clear, and effective. This role is perfect for someone who’s passionate about making a real environmental impact and enjoys helping others navigate complex systems with clarity and care.

We are pleased to offer the successful candidate three weeks annual vacation that begins to accumulate at the beginning of employment and full extended health care benefits after successful completion of the 90 day probation period. The beginning wage of $22.52 will increase every 6 months for the first year and a half of successful employment.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities -

  • Respond promptly to inquiries from the public via phone, email, and digital channels
  • Ensure our databases are accurate and up to date with the latest services, programs, and regulations
  • Stay informed on topics related to solid waste, circular economy practices, and provincial initiatives
  • Follow internal procedures and contribute to ongoing improvements

Secondary Responsibilities -

  • Conduct research into new topics, emerging issues, and unique inquiries as needed
  • Write and contribute to public-facing educational content as assigned
  • Participate actively in team meetings, evaluations, and training
  • Support other projects, tasks or events as assigned
  • Maintain and update fact sheets, internal research documents, and reference materials

Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in environmental sustainability and waste reduction
  • Excellent customer service skills with experience handling inquiries in a professional manner
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g. Environmental Studies, Geography)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using email, spreadsheets, web tools, and internal databases
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a remote team

Assets:

  • Experience with environmental or waste-related programs
  • Contact centre or phone-based support experience
  • Familiarity with BC geography
  • Multilingual

Requirements:

  • Ability to work remotely from a home office with a reliable internet connection
  • Comfortable working on a computer for extended periods (equipment provided)
  • Must be located in British Columbia (Lower mainland preferred but not required)
