Position: Food product development & production
Organization: ChocoSol Traders 
Main Location: ChocoSol St.Lawrence Market and ChocoSol St. Clair Ave. W, Toronto.

Hours: 36 - 40 hours/week
Term: 1- year contract
Start Date: June 15, 2026 - August 15, 2027

Compensation: $22.50/hour and potential pay increase after 6 months based on review to $24.00/hour

The Position:

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic production team. The development assistant will work alongside our product development team doing research and recipe development support. The core focus will be on development of a range of chocolate foods incorporating amaranth and pumpkin seeds, expanding on our range of delicious, nutritious, ecological, and ethical bean-to-bar chocolate goods. The role will include being involved in all aspects of product development from trial recipes and final formulation design in the kitchen to creation of SOPs, identification of new processes, drafting promotional materials and knowledge sharing. Along with the above the new team member will be trained to be an enthusiastic contributor to all aspects of ChocoSol’s passionate production and sales teams.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, very organized and detail driven with a passion for both chocolate & research. The candidate must be a recent Canadian College Graduate and a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Key Responsibilities

Production Support

  • Create and develop recipes for chocolate products that can be scalable to production
  • Tempering, molding, unmoulding, and packaging chocolate.
  • Preparing ingredients according to existing recipes and processes.
  • Quality control and maintaining SQF standards throughout the workspace.
  • Acquire knowledge about ChocoSol’s entire chocolate line, ethos and production methodology from farm to bar

Product & Inventory Management

  • Following logging procedures thoroughly and accurately.
  • Communicating inventory needs to the Production Manager in a timely manner.

Cleanliness and Sanitation

  • Proper cleaning and routine sanitization of all tools, equipment, machinery, and molds.
  • Undertaking opening prep and end-of-day cleaning.
  • Maintaining personal hygiene to food prep standards.

Administrative Duties

  • Create SOPs for any new products
  • Document recipes, and recipe changes
  • Regularly checking work emails and responding/following-up in a timely manner.
  • Actively engaging with Google Drive (Google Sheets, Google Docs) for effective communication regarding scheduling and hours worked.

Required Certifications

  • Food Handler’s Certification.

Experience & Education

  • Professional commercial kitchen experience is an asset.
  • Applicants majoring in Culinary Arts, Chef, Pastry Chef, or Chocolatier programs are preferable.

Skills & Attributes

  • Positive, punctual, and professional with a strong team spirit.
  • Methodological and thorough, with a strong adherence to following protocols accurately.
  • Strong communication and excellent written documentation skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and take direction from team leads.
  • Passion and interest in cacao, making chocolate, ecology, and supporting local food systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (or 25 kg).
