Hiring: Assistant Project Coordinator
Organization: Scales Nature Park 
Also hiring: Operations Coordinator | Operations Technician | Educator/ Reptile Keeper

Location: Based near Orillia, travel to other project sites may be required
Accom.: Shared accommodations may be available on-site within the main building or in nearby staff housing at a subsidized rate.

  • Duration: 4 months with possibility of extension, conditional upon funding, position to be filled immediately
  • Eligibility Requirement: Must be eligible for federal Youth Employment Strategy – up to 31 years of age
  • Salary: $23/ hour, 35 hours per week

Scales Nature Park works to conserve wild reptiles and amphibians through a variety of initiatives. These projects include the START (Saving Turtles At Risk Today) Project and the CARES Project (Conservation, Action, Research, and Education on Snakes) in Georgian Bay. scalesnaturepark.ca

Assistant Project Coordinator – Duties will include:

  • Assist with writing grant proposals, payment claims, and reports to funders, project partners, etc.
  • Assist in writing year end reports and permits to government agencies
  • Assist in project planning including site selection, team composition and data collection methods
  • Update training resources for community volunteers and Reptile Boot Camp to reflect current standards
  • Assist with staff/volunteer supervision to ensure a cohesive dynamic, assess issues and resolve conflicts
  • Monitor the reptile hotline, answer calls/texts, assess reports and assign teams to respond, record data
  • Assist with resource management, including staff, equipment, vehicles, etc.
  • Maintain project equipment, including inventory and ordering replacements as needed
  • Liaise with landowners and community members about land access, project goals and prepare reports
  • Collaborate with the Project Management in compiling and cleaning data for reports
  • Manipulation and analyses of data and the creation of maps, models, or tools using GIS applications
  • Assist with husbandry for reptiles held for rehab and conservation purposes
  • Engage in delivery of educational programming within target areas where it suits project needs
  • Assist with other duties as required by the organization and as per the interests of the individual

Requirements:

  • Ability to follow detailed protocols, stay highly organized, task switch and prioritize conflicting goals
  • Proven ability managing staff and volunteers including supervision, training and conflict resolution
  • Ability to work and thrive as part of a close-knit team in a live/work setting
  • Experience with large datasets – collation, compilation and cleaning
  • Valid G license with strong urban and rural experience; large vehicle or towing experience an asset
  • Exceptional verbal communication and relationship-building skills with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured reports
  • Flexibility regarding scheduling, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated self-direction and effective time management with minimal supervision
  • Positive attitude and passion for reptiles and their conservation
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of settings
  • Experience with resource and equipment management an asset
  • GIS experience and skills an asset
  • Valid First Aid Certification an asset with preference for wilderness or remote first aid
