Position: Community Development Lead
Organization: Yorklands Green Hub
Location: Guelph, Ontario (mostly remote)

The Yorklands Green Hub (YGH) is a non-profit organization working to create a one-of-a-kind green hub in Guelph for the benefit of the community on part of the former Ontario Reformatory (OR) heritage lands. The vision of Yorklands Green Hub is to foster environmental sustainability through educational programming and advocacy, and the public use of the site.

Position:

We are looking for a dynamic and energetic youth to be our Community Development Lead to build relationships with stakeholders and underrepresented communities. The person will be responsible for coordinating our school-based environmental education programs and assisting with volunteer management and fundraising initiatives.

This is a Work to Grow Nature Canada position that is a temporary part-time contract 25 hours per week for approximately 14 weeks with possibility to extend.

Wage is between $20 and $25/hour depending on experience.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and coordinate implementation of school programs and other community engagement events reaching out to underrepresented groups
  • Build relationships with various stakeholders including under-represented groups, local environmental groups and other community-based organizations
  • Assist with growing our fundraising base by supporting our cultivation of donors, event sponsors and other community partners
  • Organize and coordinate fundraising events to generate revenue for the organization
  • Assist in preparing budgets for each event
  • Report to Chair on regular weekly basis
  • Attend all meetings as appropriate

Evaluation

  • Assist with the Implementation of evaluation systems, to measure successes and outcomes as required by funders and ensure they can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other interested parties in a timely fashion
  • Maintain and ensure records and documentation of all financial transactions are kept and tracked as required
  • Maintain records of volunteer hours, operations, meeting and program participants, and other metrics as required.

Marketing and Promotion

  • Assist with maintaining and updating website and social media accounts
  • Promote programs and events in other ways
  • Using Canva, create attractive graphics for promotional materials as needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must demonstrate experience in community engagement with the ability to collaborate and develop relationships with partners, stakeholders, volunteers, board members and the general public
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on interpersonal connections, presentations, and facilitation with diverse groups of people
  • Having a 2nd language is an asset
  • Experience in development of educational materials for children and youth
  • Post-secondary education, community development, engagement, education or other relevant field is an asset
  • Experience with Canva and program evaluation
  • Must be able to work both independently and with a team
  • Experience using social media is a key asset
  • Must be able to effectively use administrative software, Google Drive, Zoom and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of environmental stewardship is a key asset
  • Vulnerable Sector check required

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces on occasion
  • Hours: 25 hours per week with flexibility, some evenings for 14 weeks
  • Location: remote work including zoom meetings; off-site meetings as requested. And occasionally at 785 York Rd.
  • Occasional weekend and/or evening work
