Position: Overnight Camp Communications Specialist
Program: Red Wolf Overnight Camp
Organization: The Pine Project

Location: live on-site, alongside campers & staff (Haliburton ON)
Position Type: Full-time, contract
Contract Dates: July 13 – September 4, 2026

About the Pine Project & Red Wolf Overnight Camp

The Pine Project is a Toronto-based charitable organization dedicated to helping children and youth build strong, lasting relationships with nature. Since 2008, Pine has offered year-round outdoor programs rooted in mentorship, care, and connection.

Red Wolf is Pine’s backcountry overnight camp for youth ages 7–16. Campers and staff live outdoors in tents, cook over fires, and spend their days immersed in skill-building, creative projects, games, and shared community life. Red Wolf is intentionally slower and deeper than traditional overnight camps, emphasizing mentorship, interdependence, and meaningful connection to land and place.

We are committed to promoting equity and diversity within our workplace and community. We are especially excited to see applications from members of equity-deserving groups, particularly people from Indigenous and racialized backgrounds.

About the Role
The Overnight Camp Communications Specialist is a unique hybrid role focused on storytelling, relationship-building, and care.

This role has two primary areas of responsibility:
1. External Communications & Content Creation
2. Camper Care & Family Communication

The person in this role will live on-site at Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve in Haliburton, ON, alongside campers and staff. They will move throughout camp capturing photos, videos, and stories in a way that aligns with Red Wolf’s tech-light, relationship-centered ethos, ensuring camper experience always comes first. Within the content creation work, video creation and editing are key priorities.

This role also plays a central role in supporting campers and families through thoughtful, timely communication, particularly for first-time campers, helping strengthen connection between camp and home.

Because camp life limits time and connectivity for editing and content finalization, this position will extend two weeks past the close of Red Wolf to complete video editing, content preparation, and organization of communications assets.

This is an ideal role for someone who is equally comfortable behind a camera and in community, who can hold both creative and relational responsibilities with care, and who is excited by the challenge and beauty of living at camp.

Key Responsibilities
External Communications & Content Creation

  • Capture high-quality photos, videos, and written stories throughout camp that reflect the lived experience of Red Wolf
  • Create visual and written content suitable for use across social media, email, and website channels, including short- and long-form video pieces, photo collections, and written storytelling
  • Capture a mix of:
    • On-camera and/or voiceover interviews with campers, caregivers, and staff
    • Candid moments, activities, and camp life
    • Natural environment and sense of place
  • Edit video content into polished, ready-to-use final assets and prepare photo and written content for communications use
  • Organize and prepare content so it can be easily used over time without additional editing
  • Work closely with the Director of Development and Communications and Red Wolf leadership to create content that meets marketing and communications needs

Camper Care & Family Communication

  • Lead camper care–related communications, with a focus on first-year campers
  • Track first-year campers and identify opportunities for individualized communication
  • Capture and curate photos, videos, and stories for use in family communications.
  • Draft, send, and manage family communications, such as mid-session family updates and post-camp follow-up communications (emails and/or calls)
  • Respond to and follow up on family communications as needed, in coordination with camp leadership
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager and Red Wolf leadership to ensure family communications align with camper care priorities and processes

Collaboration & Camp Life

  • Work closely with the Red Wolf Camp Manager, Red Wolf Camp Assistant Manager, and staff team to align communications with camp rhythms and priorities
  • Collaborate with Pine Project office staff, including the Director of Development and Communications and Operations Manager
  • Move respectfully through different camp groups and activities without disrupting program flow
  • Participate in camp life, contributing to the overall community culture
  • Navigate limited access to electricity and connectivity

What You Bring

  • Strong experience in visual storytelling, including photography and videography
  • Video editing skills, with the ability to independently assemble polished final cuts
  • Experience creating video content for digital channels (social media, email, website)
  • Ability to exercise strong editorial judgment in selecting moments to capture and share, prioritizing care, consent, and alignment with Pine’s values
  • Ability to write clear, warm communications and adapt messaging for different audiences
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and teamwork
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in a low-supervision environment
  • Comfort working around children and ability to prioritize camper experience
  • Commitment to the Pine Project’s mission statement and core values
  • Up to date Police Vulnerable Sectors Check (or willingness to obtain prior to employment)
  • Up to date Class G Driver’s License with clean driving record
  • Preparedness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

What We Bring

  • A rare opportunity to combine creative work with meaningful relationship-building
  • A unique backcountry camp environment rooted in mentorship and nature connection
  • Supportive collaboration with experienced outdoor educators and camp leadership
  • Opportunities to build skills in storytelling, outdoor education contexts, and community-based communications
