We’re seeking a Communications and Engagement Specialist to work with one of our multi-disciplinary teams. You will be responsible for the successful implementation of the team’s communication and engagement strategy. You will play a pivotal role in leading collaborative and engaging daily communication as well as facilitating events and programs that supports Atlantic Canada’s transition to a low-carbon future.   • The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000, depending on demonstrated experience and qualifications.

About the Opportunity

In this 18-month contract position, you will report to a Director in executing their programs’ communications strategy and external engagement events. This contract may be extended beyond 18 months based on organizational needs.

You will work closely with key team members, including project staff, the Communications and Engagement Lead, and your Director, and be responsible for:

  • Creating and implementing communications and engagement strategies to strengthen Net Zero Atlantic’s reputation as an unbiased and trusted partner in advancing the transition to a carbon-neutral future.
  • Ensuring consistency and alignment of external communications for program initiatives with Net Zero Atlantic’s brand, voice, and strategic priorities.
  • Developing program content across Net Zero Atlantic’s core communication channels (presentations, reports, newsletters, marketing materials, social media, and website).
  • Collaborating with project managers to design and implement tailored communications and engagement plans for specific initiatives.
  • Translating technical and complex project outputs into accessible and engaging formats.
  • Developing strong relationships with existing partners and building new relationships across diverse communities.
  • Facilitating media inquiries, writing media releases, and contributing to the development of positive media relations across Atlantic Canada.
  • Coordinating events such as community meetings and workshops.

Your qualifications include:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in public relations, communications studies, marketing, or journalism. Or a relevant combination of education or experience.
  • Five years of experience creating and executing communications and engagement strategies.
  • Highly motivated, creative, and strategic thinker with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Skilled writer and editor.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media and website management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional, collaborative, and inclusive teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have flexibility to periodically work outside of standard work hours as per event requirements.
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence in Atlantic Canada with the ability to rent vehicles.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Familiarity with Atlantic Canadian energy and climate change policy goals, objectives, and programs.
  • Experience in collaborating with Indigenous peoples or equity deserving groups.
