Job Opportunity

Position: Communications Coordinator
Organization: Greenbelt Foundation
Location: Toronto, Ontario

  • Application Deadline: Ongoing, until position filled. Priority will be given to applications received before October 3, 2025.
  • Tentative Start Date: November 3, 2025 (but flexible)
  • Salary: $25-$30/hour (commensurate with experience); 24-40 hours/week (to be determined during the interview process)

The Greenbelt Foundation is an independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining Ontario’s Greenbelt. With the support of the Province of Ontario, in addition to its grants program which supports community and sector capacity, the Foundation undertakes evidence-based research and policy work, strategic programs, and promotes the Greenbelt and engages the public and stakeholders. By ensuring continuous, progressive investment in the Greenbelt, the Foundation nurtures a living, thriving Greenbelt for all to enjoy.

About the Role

The Greenbelt Foundation’s Strategic Communications department exists to increase awareness and appreciation of the Greenbelt, while meaningfully and effectively engaging diverse stakeholders in the work of the Greenbelt Foundation.

The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in implementing the Foundation’s community engagement efforts. They support a variety of engagement activities including social and traditional media, newsletters, and community events. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in the Greenbelt (or related areas) and is passionate about leveraging communications tools as a means of engaging diverse stakeholders in the protection of the Greenbelt and the benefits it affords all Ontarians.

Roles and Responsibilities

Content Writing

  • Write accessible content for communications products such as media releases, blog posts, newsletters, social media, briefing notes, speaking remarks, and reports

Media Relations

  • Conduct media monitoring and analysis for Foundation staff and stakeholders
  • Compile media lists for press releases and media pitches

Digital Assets

  • Manage the Foundation’s photo and video library and share digital collateral with stakeholders as needed
  • Support the layout and distribution of monthly newsletter and daily social media
  • Develop and upload content to website
  • Produce basic designed materials, including slide shows, social media posts, infographics, posters, etc.

Events

  • Support the dissemination of communications products at in-person events, as well as through online platforms and email
  • Support event planning for virtual, hybrid, and in-person events

Admin

  • Liaise with vendors and other partners
  • Oversee the development, tracking, and distribution of promotional materials
  • Compile monthly reports for staff and board members
  • Respond to or refer inquiries received from the general public by email and telephone

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism and/or related education

Key Competencies

  • Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excited to learn and adapt quickly to new projects and tasks
  • Demonstrate creativity, self-motivation and initiative
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while producing high quality results
  • Strong computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office, social media platforms, email marketing applications, web development platforms and content management systems (such as WordPress), and design/video software (such as, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.) would be considered an asset
  • Understanding of digital technologies and emerging digital trends
  • General understanding of Canadian media and political landscape
  • Interest in and passion for the Greenbelt; appreciation for the benefits it affords all Ontarians

Our organization is currently operating on a hybrid work model with virtual and in-office work (office located in downtown Toronto), based on demands of specific work tasks and/or departmental meetings.
