Position Title: Outreach and Communications Coordinator 
Organization: Nova Scotia Working Woodlands Trust & Medway Community Forest Cooperative
Location: Work location is flexible/remote, however the candidate should be able to commute to Southwestern Nova Scotia on a semi-regular basis.

Annual Salary: Starting at $55,000, commensurate with experience 

The Nova Scotia Working Woodlands Trust (NSWWT) is an exciting new initiative that combines traditional conservation with small woodland stewardship.

We aim to uphold a rich diversity of forest values and provide unique solutions to maintain the long-term stewardship legacy of landowners through ecological forestry and conservation. 

The Medway Community Forest Co-op (MCFC) is Eastern Canada’s first Crown land community forest initiative, and leads a variety of projects focused on forestry, recreation and public outreach on our 15,000-hectare land base outside Caledonia, NS.    

The NSWWT and MCFC work in partnership and share resources and staff to help expand our missions. Together, we are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented outreach and communications coordinator to provide support to both organizations while our current coordinator is on maternity leave. 

Job Description: 

The Outreach and Communications Coordinator will lead the execution of our landowner engagement strategy and build targeted outreach to grow public awareness of the NSWWT and MCFC. The position requires strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to oversee the development of new digital and print resources to expand the reach of the Trust and the MCFC.  

This dynamic role is ideal for an individual with a passion for forest conservation and an interest in executing innovative marketing approaches to connect with diverse landowner groups. The ideal candidate has a strong vision for design, content creation and storytelling, can use qualitative tools and gather insights to inform future marketing efforts. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills and would enjoy engaging with land stewards on a daily basis.  

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the coordinator will be responsible for the following:  

• Identify, implement, monitor and refine strategies for landowner outreach and engagement; 
• Personally develop and oversee contracts for the creation of digital and print resources such as mailouts, brochures, posters etc.; 
• Develop and maintain the NSWWT property database through Little Green Light;  
• Oversee development and implementation of annual communication, newsletters, marketing and public relations plans;  
• Liaise with external partners and contractors, including designers, photographers, videographers, and advertisers; 
• Maintain and update the media list for the Trust and MCFC, liaise with media when required; 
• Develop and distribute written content, including press releases, blog posts, land steward stories, written magazine submissions, etc.; 
• Respond to messages, comments and other inquiries via social media, general email and phone; 
• Develop outreach materials and coordinate mailouts, information packages, and other targeted communications; 
• Regularly update MCFC & NSWWT websites and collaborate with both teams to develop content (event listings, blog posts etc.) aligned with our active programs; 
• Create brand awareness by developing social media content and executing targeted social media and marketing campaigns;  
• Plan, coordinate, and promote public events, including annual general meetings, information sessions, and community gatherings and represent the organization at community events and activities to enhance public profile and awareness; 
• Contribute to grant writing and reporting as required; 
• Monitor online marketing metrics to track success and analyze data to make recommendations for optimization.  

Educational & Experience Requirements: 

Mandatory Qualifications: 

• Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, environmental studies, or similar. 
• At least 2 years of relevant experience 
• Strong oral, written and visual communication skills  
• Creative with strong sense of design and branding  
• Ability to work collaboratively with partners, contractors, and internal teams 
• Experience increasing organization reach through digital engagement  
• Demonstrated experience in email marketing platforms, preferably MailChimp 
• Knowledge of website management (preferably through Squarespace) analytics and search engine optimization (SEO) best practices 
• Ability to interpret digital data and make recommendations 
• Passion for ecological forest conservation and stewardship 
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and communication channels 
• Experience working with databases and contact management systems 
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

Compensation and benefits: 

Compensation: Salary for the NSWWT Outreach and Communications Coordinator position starts at $55,000 per year with additions negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The NSWWT offers benefits to all employees and a flexible work schedule.
