Summer Outreach Student Job Description 2026

Title: Summer Outreach Student
Type: age 30 & under / summer
Reports To: Communications Director

Organization: Georgian Bay Land Trust
Location: Eastern Georgian Bay (Midland, Parry Sound, etc.)
Duration: approximately 16 weeks (35 - 40 hours/week)

Overview:

The Georgian Bay Land Trust (GBLT) Outreach Students will be responsible for representing the Georgian Bay Land Trust at events and activations throughout the many communities of eastern Georgian Bay, and for supporting the GBLT’s wider fundraising and communications activities. Responsibilities will include:

  • Representing the Georgian Bay Land Trust at community events
  • Hosting information tables in public places
  • Developing events schedule and communicating with stakeholders
  • Assisting with the development of display and outreach materials
  • Selling Georgian Bay Land Trust merchandise
  • Providing support at the GBLT’s own fundraising and educational events
  • Accompanying the GBLT’s conservation team to collect photographs, videos, and other communications content
  • Delivering outreach materials to locations around Georgian Bay

This position will require enthusiasm for the Georgian Bay environment, an outgoing and friendly attitude, and a high level of independence and maturity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Represent the Georgian Bay Land Trust at community events / activations

  • Host Georgian Bay Land Trust booth at a variety of community events, including festivals, markets, pow wows, information days, etc.
  • Host information table at key public locations, including marinas, community centres, etc.
  • Sell Georgian Bay Land Trust merchandise at events
  • Help identify outreach opportunities and develop schedule
  • Work with Communications Director to develop engaging outreach materials, activities, contests, etc.
  • Engage in a friendly and enthusiastic manner with members of the public

2. Provide support for GBLT fundraising and communications activities

  • Identify opportunities for engagement with stakeholders around eastern Georgian Bay
  • Assist with distributing GBLT communication materials (brochures, posters, etc.) to a variety of locations
  • Assist at GBLT-hosted fundraising and educational events
  • Travel with GBLT conservation team to collect photos, videos, etc. to be used as communications content
  • May have the opportunity to assist with occasional conservation work, ex. Invasive species removal, property surveys

Skills & Aptitudes:

  • Interest in the conservation of eastern Georgian Bay
  • Positive interpersonal skills, friendly and outgoing attitude
  • Independent and responsible, able to set own schedule, and work independently and in small groups
  • Must be prepared to work flexible hours, including most weekends
  • Must be comfortable with occasional boat travel in a variety of weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license is required and access to a vehicle is a strong asset
  • Must be available in the eastern Georgian Bay area from June to August, with personal accommodations in the area (Parry Sound, Midland, surrounding year-round and seasonal communities)
  • Be familiar with and share the mission and objectives of the Georgian Bay Land Trust

Anticipated start date: Monday May 11, 2026
Anticipated end date: Sunday August 30, 2026

Salary: $21/hr

Candidates must be age 30 or under to comply with funding requirements.

Preference will be given to candidates who are based for the summer in close proximity to eastern Georgian Bay.
