Position: Communications Manager
Organization: T. Buck Suzuki Environmental Foundation
Location: Remote within BC

Position Type: 16-24 hours/week variable
Salary: $26 - $30/hour (commensurate with experience)
Ideal start date: Immediately/Early October

Position Overview

We are seeking a creative, strategic, and detail-oriented Communications Manager to lead our organizational communications. The Communications Manager will oversee TBuck’s communications strategy, manage digital platforms, develop multimedia content, and coordinate outreach efforts. This role is central to building awareness, strengthening partnerships, and advancing our mission in fisheries and marine conservation. There is strong potential for growth and advancement in this role dependent on the needs of TBuck programming. Our team is spread across the province, so the ability to work independently is important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communications Strategy:
    • Lead and implement TBuck’s communications strategy across programs and campaigns.
  • Content Creation and Maintenance:
    • Create visual, written, and multimedia content for websites, newsletters, press releases, blog posts, and social media.
    • Manage and maintain the TBuck website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram).
    • Support communications for the Fisheries for Communities campaign, including website updates and social media in partnership with other ENGOs.
    • Gather and produce new content: photography, digital design, video editing.
    • Produce TBuck’s quarterly newsletter.
  • Event Coordination and Promotion:
    • Coordinate and occasionally attend outreach events, engaging the public on fisheries and TBuck programs.
    • Promote TBuck events and conferences, including marketing, media outreach, and attendance coordination.
  • Media Relations:
    • Conduct media monitoring and analysis for Foundation staff and stakeholders
    • Write and distribute press releases, and coordinate interviews.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Promote and coordinate the disbursement of TBuck’s annual bursary.
    • Compile organization reports, including the organization’s annual report.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven work experience in communications, or post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Strong skills in communications planning, writing, and implementation (including social media strategy, web content, campaign planning).
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience in media relations, and event promotion.
  • Graphic design experience (please note preferred software, e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).
  • Video editing experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Wix and Squarespace website platforms an asset.
  • Knowledge of fisheries and coastal issues in BC is an asset.
