Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation

2 Positions: Climate Adaptation Support Assistant (one in NB one in PEI)
Organization: CLIMAtlantic Inc. 
Location: virtual, anywhere in PEI or New Brunswick

  • Type: summer student position, 12 weeks
  • Pay: $20/hr, 37.5hrs/ week with flexible work hours
  • Contract length: May 19 to Aug. 7, 2026

Requires approval under Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, your participant must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of their summer job
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
    • This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job

About the position

If you are interested in learning more about helping people in Atlantic Canada understand the impacts from climate change and help them find approaches to manage and address those impacts, then this job might be for YOU! The Climate Adaptation Support Assistant will be a member of the CLIMAtlantic team, mainly responsible for supporting adaptation activities through event planning, and communications support. They will have a varied day with regular check-in meetings and online communication through Slack.

Qualifications

The successful Climate Adaptation Support Assistant must possess:

  • Some experience (1 year, can be spread out) in the environmental and climate change field (e.g., climate change science, climate change adaptation, stakeholder and community engagement approaches, land-use planning, etc.)
  • Interpersonal communications skills, both written and spoken
  • Relationship and community-building skills
  • Experience using multiple perspectives to understand problems and co-develop solutions
  • Effective time and task management
  • The ability to multitask and thrive both as a member of several teams and independently (working remotely)
  • Event planning and logistics coordination skills an asset
  • Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Google docs, etc.), Slack messaging, Zoom is a strong asset
  • Experience with Canva, Mailchimp, and social media platforms is a strong asset
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
  • Ability to travel throughout the Maritimes (carpooling is an option)

The Climate Adaptation Support Assistant may travel throughout Atlantic Canada at times. Though the Climate Adaptation Support Assistant will engage regularly within the CLIMAtlantic network, their work will require that they be self-motivated and are able to work independently with effectiveness and efficiency. The Climate Adaptation Support Assistant has a positive attitude and is both creative and proactive.
