2 Positions: Climate Adaptation Intern
Organization: CLIMAtlantic Inc
Location: virtual, anywhere in Atlantic Canada

Type: 5-month contract to end of March, with possibility of extension
Salary Range: based on $48,750 annually, 37.5hrs/ week with flexible work hours (based on qualifications and experience)

Participating interns must be: 

  • must be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of the internship;
  • must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have been granted refugee status;
  • must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance during their internship;
  • cannot be currently enrolled in school; and
  • must be a graduate of degree or diploma programs from universities, colleges, post-secondary schools of technology, post-secondary institutes and CEGEP (collège d’enseignement général et professionnel, Québec).

About the position

If you are interested in learning more about helping Atlantic Canadians understand the impacts from climate change and help them find approaches to manage and address those impacts, then this job might be for YOU! The Climate Adaptation Intern will be a member of the CLIMAtlantic team, mainly responsible for supporting adaptation activities, designing and implementing workshops, building relationships, and collaborating with partners and stakeholders. From supporting events and information gathering, to relationship and community building, they will have a varied day with regular check-in meetings and online communication through Slack.

Qualifications

The successful Climate Adaptation Intern must possess:

  • A university (or college) degree in environmental sciences, environmental planning, engineering, geography, environmental studies, climate change, marine, ocean, etc.
  • Some experience (1 year, can be spread out) in the environmental and climate change field (e.g., climate change science, climate change adaptation, stakeholder and community engagement approaches, land-use planning, etc.)
  • Interpersonal communications skills, both written and spoken
  • Relationship and community-building skills
  • Experience using multiple perspectives to understand problems and co-develop solutions
  • Effective time and task management
  • The ability to multitask and thrive both as a member of several teams and independently (working remotely)
  • Event planning and logistics coordination skills an asset
  • Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Google docs, etc.), Slack messaging, Zoom, Canva, Mailchimp, and social media platforms is a strong asset
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
  • Ability to travel throughout the Maritimes (carpooling is an option)

The Climate Adaptation Intern may travel throughout Atlantic Canada at times. Though the Climate Adaptation Intern will engage regularly within the CLIMAtlantic network, their work will require that they be self-motivated and are able to work independently with effectiveness and efficiency. The Climate Adaptation Intern has a positive attitude and is both creative and proactive.
