CAFES Term Position – November 2025 to March 31, 2026
(Subject to funding confirmation, expected shortly. May be extended if additional funding is realized.)

Position: Energy Program Lead
Organization: CAFES (Community Action for Environmental Sustainability)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario (Work from home with in-person attendance at events and meetings required)

Time Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Start Date: November 2025 (as soon as possible)
End Date: March 31, 2026 (with potential for extension if additional funding is realized)

SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION

CAFES (Community Action for Environmental Sustainability) is a network organization that advocates for environmental sustainability and promotes environmental and climate action and leadership in Ottawa’s neighbourhoods. ROLE AND JOB DESCRIPTION

The Energy Program Lead will implement CAFES’ education and advocacy work on clean energy technologies and municipal climate action. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Energy Lead will support community energy literacy, promote adoption of clean technologies, and engage in municipal policy advocacy to accelerate Ottawa’s energy transition.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver community education and outreach activities on clean energy technologies (heat pumps, electric vehicles, e-bikes, electric water heaters, etc.).
  • Build partnerships with community groups and organizations to promote local energy solutions.
  • Support municipal climate advocacy and public engagement on:
    • Electrification of transit (e.g., electric buses)
    • Building energy and carbon efficiency policies
    • Renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS), especially in rural areas
  • Prepare policy briefs, communications, and event content related to local energy transition.
  • Contribute to CAFES communications, presentations, and reports on energy and climate topics.
  • Track and report activities against an agreed-upon work plan.

COMPENSATION
$25/hour, full-time (40 hours per week).

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of clean energy technologies, electrification, and/or municipal climate policy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • Experience in program coordination, community education, or advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral).
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with residents, community partners, and policymakers.
  • Comfort using Google Workspace, WordPress, and communications tools.
  • English fluency required; French an asset.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a small team.
