Position: General Manager
Organization: Anishinabek/Ontario Fisheries Resource Centre
Location: Candidates must reside in North Bay, Ontario

Reporting to the Board of Directors under the general supervision of the Chair, the General Manager provides support in the administrative and operational aspects of the Centre’s activities and functions.

The position handles administration tasks such as maintaining employee records, promoting initiatives and projects, supporting employee relations, and collaborating with the office manager. The General Manager will provide technical leadership to the operations of the corporation and will be responsible for the coordination, development, implementation, and execution of project deliverables and reporting, as well as seeking additional funding opportunities that will support the goals and objectives of the A/OFRC.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead and support daily administrative operations
  • Update relevant policies, directives, guidelines, and forms as needed
  • Coordinate and implement annual work plan projects
  • Provide general administrative support such as coordinating meetings, drafting and reviewing correspondence and contracts
  • Maintain confidential personnel files in accordance with internal policies and procedures
  • Prepare materials for performance reviews and assisting with performance management, tracking schedules
  • Ensure all funding-related reporting is completed to external organizations as required
  • Provide management support of fiscal operations, including budget development, tracking, and monitoring of expenditures, and budget amendments as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur within the work setting.

The Person

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in business, resource management, science, or related field-or equivalent experience with First Nations organizations
  • At least two years of administration, management, or related experience
  • Knowledge of HR legislation (equity, compensation, health and safety)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and adaptability to new technologies.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and insurable under organizational policy
  • Familiarity with the 39 Anishinabek First Nations
  • Experience with non-profit governance and boards
  • Grant/proposal writing and environmental consulting experience is an asset
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment pertaining to scientific permitting, operation of commercial vessels and equipment, and workplace health and safety for organizations conducting field programs in Ontario
  • Excellent knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of fisheries biology, stock assessment and natural resource management
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Indigenous, particularly Anishinabek, culture and traditional ecological knowledge, and issues relating to Indigenous resource use and management
  • Practical experience in the field of fisheries stock and habitat assessment and management
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is an asset

Compensation
