About Northstar Organics

We are a 10-acre certified organic farm growing vegetables and berries in fields and greenhouses. We have 1 acre of blueberries and a small amount of strawberries. The farm is located in Central Saanich at 2200 Bear Hill Rd, near Victoria. All our food is sold in the Victoria area, at farmers’ markets, and to local restaurants.

Northstar Organics is certified organic by NOOA. Our goal is to grow healthy food in a sustainable way, all for consumption in Victoria and area community.

• Able to commute to the farm at 2200 Bear Hill Road in Central Saanich. There is no housing available on the farm.

This work involves managing the blueberry and strawberry crops at the farm. The majority of the work is overseeing the blueberry harvest by a crew of harvesters that are paid by the pounds of berries that they harvest. This includes assigning rows to be picked , paying out weekly wages based on amounts harvested, sorting and grading all berries and preparing berries for pre-orders and farmers market sales, as well as keeping track of payments made. When there is time, especially before and after the main blueberry harvest (which generally lasts 6 weeks, starting beginning of July) there is work such as harvesting and maintaining the strawberry crop, and communicating with customers for blueberry pre-orders.

Position Details

Term: This is a full time position, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Work start day June 1 and finish is August 28. A longer work season is available for candidates wanting that, up to a start day of May 4 to end date of October 30.

Wage: Compensation is $20/hour to start, plus 4% vacation pay. There will be an extra $5/hour to successful applicants to the Youth Emplyment and Skills Program (YESP) that we will apply for together with the applicant. YESP applicants must be 30 years old or younger.

Unsold produce is available to employees to take home for personal use.
