Location: Prince Edward County, Ontario

Assistant Teacher
Full-Time - Multi-Age Support Role (K–5)

Cedar Grove School is a small, nature-based, non-profit K-5 school (intending to grow to K-Grade 8 over time) located on an organic farm and forest setting. Our program is rooted in relationship, rhythm, and meaningful engagement with the land. The natural setting is not separate from learning - but rather integral to it.

As we continue to grow, we are refining a collaborative, multi-age teaching model designed to be sustainable for educators and engaging for students. This work builds on our experience over the past several years, strengthening what is working while bringing greater clarity and consistency to the program.

We are seeking a full-time Assistant Teacher to support our multi-age classrooms (Kindergarten through Grade 5).

This is a central, steadying role within our school. The Assistant Teacher provides continuity across the week, supports both Kinder and Grade School groups, and helps bring cohesion to our shared teaching model.

About the Role

This position is not a passive support role - it is an active, relational, and collaborative teaching position.

The Assistant Teacher works alongside both the Kindergarten and Grade School Lead Teachers to:

  • Support delivery of shared and developing curriculum
  • Help facilitate smooth transitions, rhythms, and group flow
  • Provide continuity for students across multi-age groupings
  • Assist with outdoor learning, land-based activities, and daily routines
  • Step into teaching moments with small groups or individuals as needed
  • Contribute to a calm, organized, and responsive classroom environment

The Assistant Teacher joins a program that is being thoughtfully developed by school leadership and plays an important role in supporting consistency and continuity as this work evolves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work across both classroom groups (Kindergarten and Grade School)
  • Support implementation of structured academic lessons
  • Assist with classroom management, transitions, and daily rhythms
  • Engage actively in outdoor and land-based learning
  • Provide targeted support to students who need additional guidance
  • Collaborate with the teaching team on a daily and weekly basis
  • Help maintain a consistent, caring, and grounded environment for students

What This Role Is

  • A core part of the teaching team, not an add-on
  • A role that provides consistency and stability across the program
  • Collaborative, dynamic, and responsive
  • A blend of practical support and meaningful engagement in learning

We’re Looking For Someone Who

  • Is warm, grounded, and attentive to group dynamics
  • Understands that small group settings require intentional structure and presence, and can skillfully guide group dynamics
  • Thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Is comfortable outdoors in all seasons
  • Can step in flexibly where needed throughout the day
  • Is observant and responsive to student needs
  • Enjoys supporting both academic learning and hands-on activities
  • Values consistency, rhythm, and relationship-building

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children (school, camp, childcare, or similar settings)
  • Interest in nature-based or experiential education
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • OCT certification, Waldorf training, ECE, or related background is an asset

Compensation

  • $40,000 – $48,000 annually (full-time equivalent), commensurate with experience
  • Tuition remission for up to 2 children
  • Health and benefits support for full-time staff (structured as a group plan or equivalent compensation)

What We Offer

  • A meaningful, full-time role within a close-knit school community
  • The opportunity to work across age groups and learning environments
  • Daily access to forest and farm settings
