GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Manager, Campaigns (farm animal welfare) is responsible for the successful development, coordination and implementation of Humane World for Animals Canada farm animal protection campaigns, leading our engagement with Canadian governments, corporations, and other stakeholders to advance higher standards of farm animal protection. This includes policy advocacy, corporate outreach, and strategic partnerships, with a focus on reducing the suffering of animals raised for food. The role requires expertise in Canadian regulatory and political systems, strong relationship-building skills, and a proven track record of program achievements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement program strategies to influence Canadian government, corporate and institutional policies on farm animal welfare.
  • Build relationships with Canadian industry, corporate and government representatives to encourage stronger animal welfare commitments and reporting.
  • Conduct research on Canadian farming practices, supply chains, and market trends to support advocacy and corporate initiatives.
  • Participate in governmental and other task forces, preparing reports, policy briefs, and submissions for consultations.
  • Build strategic coalitions to advance program goals, including NGOs, professional associations, academics, and corporations.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory and corporate developments affecting farm animal protection in Canada.
  • Regularly evaluate campaign impact and collaborate on adaptation of strategies as needed, providing regular program progress reports and feedback.
  • Draft program communications materials (news releases, social posts, briefs, etc), develop media strategies and key messages, and serve as chief spokesperson for Canadian farm animal welfare campaigns.
  • Communicate with the public and respond to inquiries.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, coalitions, and multi-stakeholder platforms.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in program leadership, management and execution required.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Strong leadership and team management skills.
  2. Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  3. Superior communication (oral and written), facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  4. Strong media and public relations skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain contacts within animal protection, the media, the corporate sector and the government.
  6. Demonstrated ability to advance campaigns and programs.
  7. Personal belief in and support for Humane World for Animals’ mission and core values.
  8. Superior analytical and strategic planning skills.
  9. Ability to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally.
  10. Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  11. Excellent budget management skills.
  12. Experience with, knowledge of and interest in animal protection issues is highly desired.
  13. French language skills are an asset.
