Position: Senior Director of Business Operations (SDBO)
Reports to: Executive Director (ED)

  • Location: Hybrid - Remote in GTA, 2 in-person days a week in the Liberty Village office Compensation: $90,000-$120,000 plus comprehensive benefits package
  • Term: Full-time (37.5hrs/week)

POSITION SUMMARY

The GPO has an exciting opportunity to build for growth before the next election, to expand vision and impact, and set the foundation for successful campaigns to elect Ontario Green candidates across the province. To deliver on this vision, the ED seeks a Senior Director of Business Operations (SDBO) to serve as their primary partner in leading the accounting/financial and operational and regulatory functions of the organization and translating plans into action over the coming years.

The SDBO will have responsibility for hands-on controller-level accounting, operational systems, and Elections Ontario filing and compliance oversight within the organization. Supported by an accounting clerk, they will oversee administrative, HR, technical operations, and organizational alignment. Working closely with the ED, they will help ensure that there are well-functioning and values-led operations across people & culture, finance, risk, policy, and organizational infrastructure.

This role is well suited to a business leader with strong people skills who is comfortable operating at the intersection of accounting, operations, and mission alignment, and who brings clarity rather than complexity to decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Financial Leadership & Performance Oversight

  • Lead finance, budgeting, compliance, and financial reporting, working closely with the ED and fractional CFO
  • Oversee the day-to-day financial functions including accounts payable, payroll, banking, and monthly reconciliations using QuickBooks Online.
  • Responsible for the accurate entry of all transactions into the accounting software.
  • Year-end preparation of documents and coordination with external auditors,
  • Ensure the GPO operates in full compliance with all Elections Ontario requirements, including CR4 and AR10 filings, audits, and contribution tracking.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and budget tracking.
  • Monitor cash flow to ensure liquidity and reserve management.
  • Monitor contribution activity for reporting and tax receipt generation processes.
  • Manage banking relationships to optimize the GPO cash position and investments.
  • Build multi-year planning dashboards (budgets, cash flow, reserves, endowments, investments).
  • Support resource allocation decisions by linking financial insight to strategy.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls, business processes, and organizational policies to ensure ethical and effective financial management.
  • Liaise as necessary with internal stakeholders regarding monetary transfers, including riding association CFOs, commission Treasurers, local campaign CFOs, and leadership campaign CFOs.

2. Organizational Leadership & Work Plan Implementation

  • Work closely with the ED to ensure cross-functional integration across the organization and ensure campus and remote teams, processes, and systems are aligned and working with coherence.
  • Monitor the operationalization of the 2026 work plan.
  • Collaborate to translate mission, vision, and strategic priorities into future annual plans, KPIs, budgets, and support financial sustainability, continuous improvement, and cross-team execution frameworks.
  • Serve as an organizational leader, supporting staff by modeling clarity, collaboration, and accountability across the organization.
  • Stakeholder management as a non-profit, political organization registered with Elections Ontario.

3. People, Culture & Organizational Development

  • Work closely with the ED and Department Directors to implement the GPO’s vision for culture and people development
  • Support the development and growth of staff across the organization working with Department DIrectors to create performance management frameworks and improved systems for onboarding, feedback, training, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Partner with the ED to find opportunities for emerging internal leadership pathways within the GPO.
  • Coach and support staff in strengthening efficient operations, planning, and cross-functional collaboration.

4. Systems Stewardship & Risk Management

  • Lead the design, assessment and continuous improvement of organization-wide systems, workflows, and risk evaluation.
  • Support effective collaboration between departments by aligning systems/tools.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Technology and Innovation, oversee the implementation and upgrading of key operational tools, technology platforms, and vendor relationships.
  • Assess the current accounting and financial management practices and systems, and design and implement advanced systems to support more efficiency and accuracy.

5. Provincial Executive (PE) and Governance Support

  • Prepare operational reports and dashboards for the ED and PE.
  • Support policy development, risk, compliance, and special initiatives.
  • Ensure governance information flows smoothly and accurately between staff and PE.
  • Surface risks, interdependencies, and decision points to support timely and informed team and Provincial Executive feedback.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accounting designation required, MBA and/or executive experience demonstrating strong business judgment and financial acumen an asset.
  • 5-8 years of leadership experience in mission-driven, political, non-profit, or government agency organizations.
  • Proven financial literacy and accounting knowledge, including expertise in forecasting, managing complex budgets, and performance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of financial compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success designing and implementing business strategies tied to financial outcomes.
  • High level of proficiency in accounting software and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working across functions and integrating diverse teams toward shared business and organizational goals.
  • High integrity and discretion.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

  • Familiarity with political parties, Elections Ontario compliance, or government agency reporting processes.
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks Online.
  • Experience with CRM systems.
  • French language proficiency.

COMPENSATION

$90,000-$120,000 (Salary commensurate with experience)
