Volunteer Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Organization: Community Climate Council
Location: Remote and hybrid, Peel Region, GTA, Ontario

Reports to: Head of Culture and Engagement
Time commitment: 3-5 hours/week

ABOUT US:

The Community Climate Council (CCC) is a committed team of volunteers in Peel Region driven by the urgency of the climate crisis. Through a combination of climate literacy and political advocacy, we empower our community to push for bold climate policies and take proactive steps toward change. Founded with the vision of creating a platform for local voices to demand action, our work is rooted in community-led solutions. We approach every project with a focus on collaboration, ensuring that our efforts are both community-centered and solutions-driven.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Volunteer Coordinator to work closely with the Head of Culture and Engagement and the management team to develop and implement strategies aligned with the overall Council’s strategic plan in the following areas: succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational performance management, and training and development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Records & Documentation
    • Maintain admin records and databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
    • Prepare documents, such as contracts, offer letters, and offboarding letters.
    • Maintain volunteer data and generate regular reports on including headcount, turnover, and training records.
    • Attend a weekly meeting.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding
    • Support the Recruitment Coordinator as needed with posting job openings, reviewing resumes, and scheduling interviews, including drafting job descriptions and job postings.
    • Coordinate employee orientation and onboarding processes, including preparing new hire paperwork and conducting volunteer orientations.
  • Employee Support & Communication
    • Serve as a point of contact for volunteers regarding HR-related questions, policies, and procedures.
    • Assist in addressing volunteer inquiries and providing guidance on HR policies and practices.
  • Training & Development
    • Assist in organizing training sessions and workshops for volunteers.
    • Support HR projects and initiatives, such as employee engagement programs, performance management, and employee development.
    • Help administer volunteer recognition and appreciation programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Skills and Experience:
    • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field an asset
    • Proven experience in an administrative role, preferably in an HR or related department.
    • Basic understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment laws.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
    • Comfortable using apps such as Slack and Google Workspace.
    • Knowledgeable about local climate issues and climate action.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
    • Eagerness to learn and gain hands-on experience in program development and climate action.
    • Passionate about creating positive change and fostering community resilience.
    • Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic work environment.
